Applications for 2022 absentee ballots being taken at election board

Voters in Canadian County who want absentee ballots mailed to them for elections in 2022 should apply now, said county election board secretary Wanda Armold.

Any registered voter may request absentee ballots for a specific election or for a full calendar year. No excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot. Armold said there are many ways to apply.

Commissioners put out bids to update sheriff office fleet

With some vehicles showing wear and tear, the Canadian County Sheriff’s Office is looking to update its fleet.

County commissioners approved advertising for bids for vehicles driven by sheriff’s personnel.

Commissioners asked a sheriff’s official why vendor bids were being sought to purchase vehicles.

“We need to replace some high-mileage vehicles,” said Jail Administrator Kristie Carter. “We’ve got a couple new detention deputies on that will need vehicles.”

Luttrell files sports betting bill

OKLAHOMA CITY – Rep. Ken Luttrell, R-Ponca City, has filed House Bill 3008, a bill that would add in-person sports betting to the Oklahoma state-tribal gaming compact.

“I have had conversations with our gaming tribes during the interim to gauge their interest on this topic,” Luttrell said. “I feel the time is right for Oklahoma to partner with the tribes and ensure a level, competitive gaming playing field with the surrounding states.”
