Momentum is the cornerstone of El Reno High School’s game plan this week.

The Indians make the long journey to the southwest corner of the state to close out the regular season against Altus.

El Reno locked up a playoff berth for a fifth straight season with last week’s 29-7 win over Duncan, which eliminated the Demons from postseason contention.

The win was the third in a row for El Reno and the fourth in the last five games.

Five weeks ago the thought of making the playoffs seemed far-fetched at best after El Reno High School’s football team opened up District 5A-1 play with a 41-point loss.

Not any more.

El Reno got two rushing touchdowns from quarterback Elijah Fisher and one each from running backs Malachi Nicholson and Latin Everheart as the Indians battled through a steady rain to defeat the Duncan Demons 29-7.

The win was the fourth in the past five games for El Reno and secured the Indians a spot in the Class 5A playoffs for a fifth straight year.

The El Reno Chamber of Commerce and the El Reno Tribune plan to live-stream the candidate forum that will be held at Redlands Community College.

The live-stream will be available at the Tribune Facebook page.

The forum is set for 7 p.m. Nov. 1 at RCC.

It will come one week before the Nov. 8 General Election. The forum will feature candidates for El Reno mayor and City Council Ward 3.

The one-hour event will feature questions from a moderator as well as the audience.

A 1987 graduate of El Reno High School, Miller, an accomplished architect and businessman, is one of four former students being honored with the Distinguished Alumni Award. 

From a black cat darting across the street to zombies roaming freely throughout downtown El Reno, riders on the Heritage Express Trolley were whisked away into an eerie and frightening adventure.

The inaugural Haunted Trolley Rides, a family-friendly event, was the blood-curdling idea of the El Reno Arts Council and organizers quickly deemed it a success.

The El Reno School Board hung out the help wanted sign last week in an effort to fill the seat being vacated by Dallas Curtis come early November. But the manner in how it will be done drew some opposition.

Curtis, who has held the Ward 2 seat for six years and is also the board’s vice president, informed fellow board members earlier this month that he was moving out of the district to family property north of El Reno.

A 15-year-old El Reno High School student found himself at the Canadian County Children’s Justice Center after he allegedly gave marijuana to a fellow student who apparently had a reaction to it.

Police reports said an officer was at the high school speaking with Principal Jerelyn Atchison on another matter when a “juvenile informed her of a medical situation and requested her presence.”

The officer reported following the principal to the media arts center where a student “was slumped over on his desk unresponsive to verbal commands.”
