The right dollars to drill?

An energy company planning to drill near a livestock barn owned by El Reno Public Schools will have to redirect its efforts or pay more money.

The El Reno Public School Board voted unanimously to reject a request by Revolution Resources II LLC and Revolution Operating Company LLC for a sub-surface easement deal with the district.

“I would make a motion to reject the lease agreement as presented,” said school board member Curtis Blanc.

Christmas meal returns Dec. 24

Dwight Kennedy and his family along with volunteers and members of Wesley United Methodist Church will host the annual El Reno Christmas Eve Dinner.

The dinner will be 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 24 at the Wesley Family Life Center, 100 S. Barker.

Kennedy and his family started the Christmas Eve Community Dinner in the early 1980s and have held it almost every year, the exception when the family moved out of town for a few years.

Architect hired for health department renovations

An architect has been hired to design a renovation project for a new Canadian County Health Department clinic and offices.

County commissioners voted 3-0 to approve an agreement between Oklahoma City-based MA+ Architecture LLC and the CCHD for architectural services at the future health department site, 6100 E. Highway 66.

Work is due to begin next spring to update the 33,000-square-foot building, which previously housed El Reno’s Halliburton plant.

The Halliburton site will be renovated into the new Canadian County Health Department

Statewide essay contest now open to eighth-grade students

The Mayors Council of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma Municipal League invite eighth- graders from home, public and private schools throughout Oklahoma to participate in a statewide essay contest, “If I Were Mayor, I Would ...” to tell others what they would do as mayor to make their city or town a better place to live.
