Victims and survivors of crime across Canadian County were remembered and honored during National Crime Victims Rights Week April 23-29.

Crime victims, survivors and advocates gathered in Yukon for Canadian County’s 33rd Annual Crime Victim Survivor Vigil.

Nonprofit agencies like Cardinal Point Family Resource Center, Canadian County Child Abuse Response Team, Intervention Crisis and Advocacy Network, Court-Appointed Special Advocates and others had resource booths on-site before the vigil started.

Academic Team holds quiz bowl as fundraiser

El Reno High School Academic Team recently hosted an adult meet to raise money for its trip to national competition at the end of May in Atlanta.

So far, the team has raised $2,100 of the minimum $3,000 needed for the trip.

If you’d like to make a contribution, checks can be mailed to El Reno High School at P.O. Box 580, made out to ERPS Academic Team with “Donation” in the memo section.

Attorneys to provide free legal advice during annual Law Day

In celebration of Law Day, hundreds of attorneys across Oklahoma will provide free legal advice to members of their communities.

Members of the Canadian County Bar Association will be partnering with Trinity Legal Clinic to host a free walk-in legal clinic at the Canadian County Courthouse on Friday, May 5 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. 

“Law Day is special because it gives lawyers another chance to serve their communities,” said Oklahoma Bar Association President Brian Hermanson.

DEL CITY – While other schools in the league were left scrambling to make up lost games due to rain, a little sacrifice by El Reno High School’s baseball team led to the Indians third straight sweep.

Giving up a home game to set up a road doubleheader, El Reno run-ruled Del City twice by scores of 11-1 and 19-1 to lock up fifth place in the District 5A-1 standings with a 6-8 record.

Thinclads run west in Weatherford

El Reno High School’s track teams took part in the first of two meets last week at the 2023 Weatherford Eagle Invitational, with the boys team taking 13th overall.

Bugg Elledge had the highest finish among the boys with a sixth-place effort in the 200-meter dash with a time of 24.90 seconds. Latin Everheart took 10th place with a 25.11 effort.

Indians fourth at regional, punch state ticket

After a series of near misses in recent years, El Reno High School is headed back to the Class 5A Girls State Golf Championships with a full squad.

El Reno took fourth place in the Class 5A West Regional played on the Aqua Canyon Course at Cimarron National Golf Club in Guthrie last week. The event was shortened to nine holes due to rain.

The Indians carded a 196 score, led by Skylar Ayers with a round of 45, followed by duplicate rounds of 49 from Kallie Maifield and Madison Patswald. Emma Patswald posted a 53 and Trinity Black a 67.
