Redlands enrollment increased during summer

High school and college students aren’t taking a break this summer as Redlands Community College is seeing a 9.9 percent increase in enrollment for the current eight-week session.

With an increase in several areas, enrollment is up 23.7 percent in concurrent students and 4.8 percent in sophomores.

OMRF discovery may lead to easier diagnosis of autoimmune disease

OKLAHOMA CITY — A discovery at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation is paving a path toward a more accurate and less intrusive diagnosis of Sjögren’s disease, an autoimmune disorder affecting up to 4 million Americans.

Currently, at least 30 percent of people suspected to have Sjögren’s disease undergo a diagnostic lip biopsy because they lack a telltale biomarker found through a blood test, said OMRF scientist Darise Farris, Ph.D.

“That biomarker has traditionally played a primary role in diagnosing the disease,” Farris said.

Lack of diamond time hurts Indians

MUSTANG – Having lost yet another doubleheader due to the lack of players by its opponent, El Reno High School’s Varsity 1 baseball team made its first road trip of the summer having played two games in eight days.

The lack of diamond time showed.

El Reno slipped to 4-3 on the summer in the Red Dirt League standings after being swept by Mustang’s Red Squad by scores of 7-5 and 10-4.

The Indians had been scheduled to host Clinton the night before, but the Red Tornadoes backed out of the twinbill hours before first pitch due to a lack of available players.

Lamplighters OHCE holds meeting at Mt. Zion Church

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mt. Zion Methodist Church.

Carol Stine called the meeting to order and led in the Pledge of Allegiance, while also offering the devotional and prayer titled “Blessings to Come.”

Roll call was answered by naming each person’s favorite role model, with grandmothers being the favorite choice.

Maxine Little read minutes of the previous meeting and gave the treasury report. She also presented the leader lesson on “Oklahoma Women in History.”
