OKLAHOMA CITY – Eight days after setting a new school mark with a fourth straight trip to state, Jacob Mayfield’s program again etched its name among the Chieftains elite.

Calumet, ranked second in the state but holding the top seed, defeated No.4 Rattan 59-47 to win the 2026 Class B1 Boys Oklahoma Basketball Championship.

It’s the second straight title for Mayfield’s program, tying a school record set 21 years ago, after two runner-up finishes in 2023 and 2024.

OKLAHOMA CITY - When Okarche dropped three out of class games in December’s Tournament of Champions, many thought a weakness had been exposed that other Class A teams might exploit.

The Warriors saw it as a way to grow tougher through adversity.

El Reno lifters win regional title, set sights on state

The 2026 Oklahoma Powerlifting Coaches Association’s State Championships return to Jenks Simmons Field House this week, with El Reno High School looking to battle for a team title.

The Indians have placed fifth or better six times since 2018 including back-to-back state titles in the Class 5A Large School Division (2021-22). Last year El Reno was runner-up to Durant by seven points.

This year El Reno will have five lifters in the high school state field after the team took the Northwest Regional Championship with 112 points, 31 more than Guthrie.

Weatherford blanks El Reno, Indians seek first win

El Reno High School’s baseball team slipped to 0-3 on the spring season after dropping a 9-0 road decision to Weatherford.

The Indians were held to one hit, a single by Garrett March, and went 1-of-13 from the plate.

Gage Lesperance took the loss on the hill for the Indians, allowing four runs off four hits and three walks, while fanning two batters. Leighton Wedman gave up five runs off six hits and a walk.

Soccer splits with Eagles

El Reno High School’s soccer teams split home outings with Weatherford last week.

Tristan Chandler (10) scored a goal for the boys in a 1-0 win over the Eagles. Philip Oakes and Angel Zarate had three shots each and DeMarco Guzman had eight shots.

El Reno moves to 2-0 on the year.

Lily Hayes (4) had one of two shots for the girls in a 7-0 setback, dropping EHS to 1-1 overall.

Casey Trejo said business is good.

The El Reno realtor has been seeing a steady flow of buyers and sellers for property all around town. They walk into her downtown office regularly.

There’s only one area that is struggling to jump on the El Reno bandwagon … the historic downtown.

Trejo said that’s got to change.

An El Reno native, Trejo, along with a few others stepped in to fill the void created when the El Reno Main Street program went through some major changes. Together they created the Historic Downtown El Reno Foundation.

Bombers sweep EHS in 5A-1 set

Despite logging nine hits, El Reno High School’s baseball team kicked off the 2026 spring season on the short end of a doubleheader against the Midwest City Bombers.

El Reno fell 6-2 at the Hub Reed Complex before dropping the road game 10-1. The Indians are now tied for fifth in the District 5A-1 standings at 0-2 with Santa Fe South, Guymon and Southeast.

El Reno had six hits in the home loss, led by a 3-for-3 effort from Garrett March. Gage Lesperance went 2-for-4 and Will Gipson added a single.
