Sheriff’s office staff to undergo crisis intervention training

The Canadian County Sheriff’s Office will begin training staff on crisis intervention, said a statement from the sheriff’s office.

The first of seven, five-day, 40-hour crisis intervention team training sessions began Jan. 22. The final block will be taught in October.

Crisis intervention team training was developed to assist officers in recognizing individuals who may be experiencing a mental health crisis.

RCC instructors land grants for zero-cost textbooks

In an effort to alleviate some of the college expenses for students, faculty at Redlands Community College are identifying free course materials.

Three instructors were recently awarded grants by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education for creating or adopting openly licensed, zero-cost textbooks, saving students hundreds of dollars.

Former deputy charged with sexual misconduct sued by alleged victim

A former Canadian County sheriff’s deputy charged criminally with sexual misconduct is now being sued by an alleged victim.

David Wayne Loman is defendant in a lawsuit filed Dec. 22 in Canadian County District Court.

Loman allegedly assaulted the plaintiff while he was transporting the female inmate from the Pottawatomie County Jail to the Canadian County Jail. Convicted in March 2020 of drug trafficking, she is now in state prison.

Lankford defends life in Senate address

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Sen. James Lankford (R-OK) spoke on the Senate floor last week in support of life, ahead of the 2024 March for Life in Washington, D.C.

Lankford has been a leading voice for the protection of life. He recently received an A+ score on the latest Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America National Pro-Life Scorecard, a tool for holding members of Congress accountable for their legislative records on life and highlighting leadership in the fight to protect unborn children and their mothers.

El Reno downs Yukon to win third in-season tournament

SHAWNEE – Riding a combined 27 points from two all-tournament selections, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team defeated Yukon by 19 points to win its third in-season tourney crown.

Senior Pauline Black-Harmon scored 14 points and fellow post player Lilly Thomas added 13 points as El Reno moved to 15-0 on the season with a 66-47 win over the Millers, who had their nine-game win streak halted.

The two interior players combined for 90 of the team’s 223 points for the three games which included blowout wins over Southeast (78-22) and Coweta (79-23).

El Reno cages host for Shawnee consolation title

In the first of three meetings this season, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team defeated the host team 52-37 to win the consolation title at the 2024 Shawnee Invitational.

The 15-point decision lifted El Reno to 11-4 on the season. The Indians opened the tourney with a 77-72 loss to Class 6A Bixby after squandering a 61-55 lead after three periods.

The Spartans outscored EHS 22-11 in the final period.
