Indians rally to take third in dual tourney

MIDWEST CITY – After its top five golfers gave up 33 strokes to par over the opening five holes of the 2026 Carl Albert Invitational, El Reno High School’s boys golf team settled down to post a 12th-place finish in a stacked field.

The event also served as the 2026 Suburban Conference Boys Championship as six of the teams were in the field.

ER girls shoot low round

El Reno High School’s girls golf team posted its third-straight sub-400 round en route to an eighth-place finish in the 2026 Tecumseh Invitational.

Playing at Firelake Golf Course, El Reno shot a season-low 366 and was the third best Class 5A team behind runner-up Ada (311) and fourth-place Duncan (320).

Norman North won the team title with a 285, while Stillwater (313), Perkins-Tryon (333), Elk City (336) and Tishomingo (344) beat out El Reno.

RCC wins three in a row

Redlands Community College women’s golf team pulled out a two-stroke win over Barton College to grab the team title at the 2026 Conquistador Classic.

The Cougars, winners of three straight tournaments, carded a 36-hole total of 622 (304-318) at the Mariah Hills Golf Club in Dodge City, Kan. Barton (624) was followed by Garden City (639), Dodge City (659) and Friends University (693) to round out the top five.

After sorting through some 50 resumes from seven different states, Rodney Haydon brought back only one candidate for a second interview to become El Reno High School’s next head coach for boys basketball.

“He was my only second interview and the only one I offered the job to,” said Haydon.

Mother Nature plays havoc with Indians baseball slate

Mother Nature is again playing tricks with El Reno High School’s baseball team, this time stealing a chance for the Indians to get a little home revenge on Noble.

After losing the road game to the Bears 12-2, the outing at the Hub Reed Complex was postponed due to forecasted severe weather around game time.

The event will now be made up April 29 since it’s a District 5A-1 outing.

The loss to the Bears dropped El Reno to 11-12 on the year and extended its current losing streak to three games.

WIlliams passes 400 K mark, Calumet snaps two-game slide

Union City High School senior Aiden Williams joined an elite group of statewide pitchers to crack the 400-career strikeout list after no-hitting Class B’s sixth-ranked Moss.

The no-hitter, his fourth of the season, came in the finals of the 2026 Moss Pirates Classic. The right-hander went seven full innings, fanning 12 batters and allowing four walks. He threw 109 pitches, 58 of those strikes.

Williams’ win, his seventh of the spring, was preceded with mound victories by Mason Williams and Dylan Delay.

RCC seeks wins to lock down third in West bid

With eight games left in NJCAA Region 2, Division II play, Redlands Community College’s baseball team needs victories in order to secure a berth in the postseason tourney.

The Cougars head into a four-game set with West Division leader Murray State with a 17-26 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the West standings, which is currently third.

Redlands lost a non-division game to Rose State (16-6) after splitting a West series with the University of Arkansas Rich Mountain. The wins over the Bucks were by scores of 12-10 and 7-4 and the losses, 15-14 and 11-4.

Filling up the spotlight

El Reno and The Filling Station keep attracting attention. 

Last week a video crew hired by the Oklahoma Department of Tourism was in town, filming a commercial the state plans to air both nationally and internationally.

It’s part of the promotion of the 100th anniversary of Route 66, said Lyndsay Bayne. Bayne serves as Director of Public Information and Marketing for the City of El Reno.
