Canadian County OSU Extension to host free Spring Ag Day Seminar

The Canadian County OSU Extension Center will host a free Early Spring Ag Day Seminar. 

The event will be Feb. 14, with the first session starting at 9 a.m. and will focus on Cow Calf Nutrition, presented by Marty New, OSU Extension livestock specialist.

The majority of Oklahoma cow herds are spring calving herds, making this a vital session for cattle producers.

Early spring cropping systems generally have better yields and cash flow for more central Oklahoma farmers.

El Reno defense sets tone in 5A-1 win over Southeast

On a night when discipline on offensive shot selection was a bit loose, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team used its defense to spark a wire-to-wire victory over Southeast.

El Reno logged 20 steals, 12 in the first half, en route to a 71-25 win over the Spartans and a sweep of the season series with Southeast by a combined 101 points. The Indians won the first meeting in December by 55 points.

Double-digit breakaways crack SE Spartans defense

A trio of double-digit runs over the first three periods allowed El Reno High School’s boys basketball team to reach double-digit wins in the District 5A-1 standings and move a game closer to the 20-win mark.

El Reno improved to 18-1 on the season and 10-0 in the district chase with an 89-58 victory over the Spartans to sweep the season series by a combined 84 points.

The loss dropped Southeast (5-5) to fourth in the standings, five games back of the Indians. Carl Albert and Lawton MacArthur remain tied for second at 8-2, two games back of El Reno.

ER matmen pin down eighth in Chickasha bid

El Reno High School’s boys wrestling team wrapped up its regular-season tournament schedule with an eighth-place showing at the recent 2025 Chickasha Classic.

The Indians, ranked 13th in Class 5A, scored 104 points in the 18-team meet which was won by the host with 287.5 points.

Piedmont (201) was a distant second and Yukon (151) was sixth.

Mason Hoffman (106) scored 24 team points with a second-place finish following a 3-0 loss to Del City’s Evan Colbert.

Hoffman logged a 4-1 record including one fall over Southmoore’s Jayden Camua (2:37).

Indians place six in Sand Springs meet

One of four county entries in the 30-squad field, El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team placed 23rd in the recent 2025 Sand Springs Girls Only Invitational.

El Reno logged 133.5 team points behind six placers. Remy Whitney (100) led the way with a runner-up finish and 38 points, losing in the finals to Westmoore’s Kyrain Perez by a 10-9 margin.

The freshman went 4-1 with three falls, the quickest in 1:54 over Tonkawa’s Jazmin Dollarhide.
