City voted into Metro Planning Organization

Persistence as well as growth paid off for the city of El Reno after City Manager Matt Sandidge announced the community has been voted into the Metro Planning Organization.

Sandidge broke the news to the city council at Tuesday night’s regular monthly meeting.

Sandidge said the inclusion in the 44-member city planning district opens El Reno up to be eligible to apply for federal transportation grants to the tune of more than $27 million per year. He said El Reno could benefit from grants that could help improve traffic signaling and safety.

Office manager selected as Expo Center interim director

Mandy Davis has been named interim director at the Canadian County Expo and Event Center, 3001 Jensen Road East.

Davis, who has been the center’s office manager for the past two years, was unanimously selected to fill the position by county commissioners. She will serve on an interim basis until the commissioners select a permanent successor to Nathan Smith.

“I have a lot of confidence in Mandy,” said District 2 Commissioner Dave Anderson.

Police Reports - 5/13/2023

Two juvenile girls were sent to the Gary Miller Children’s Justice Center after police said they allegedly tried to vandalize a vehicle at the Braum’s store, 2201 S. Country Club.

Police said three girls were in the vehicle and a dispute broke out about money for gas. Reports said two of the girls tried to put dirt in the gas tank of the vehicle.

The incident took place on Sunday, May 7.

Etta Dale honors teacher

Brown teaches Eastern Geography at Etta Dale.

He is an El Reno High School and Emporia State University graduate. His favorite sports teams are the Golden State Warriors and Dallas Cowboys, and his hobbies include exercising, jet skiing and home improvement.
