El Reno harriers open season with solid Bethany runs

BETHANY - Freshman Raquel Seymour opened up her prep career recently with a 36th-place effort for El Reno High School’s cross country team in the 2025 Bethany Bronchos Invitational.

El Reno was a runner short in the girls 5,000-meter race (3.10 miles) to compete as a team.

Seymour led the girls with a time of 24 minutes and .03 seconds. Lilly Owen (24:48) was close behind in 44th and Amerie Sam (37:44) took 91st.

The boys were 10th as a team with 316 points, paced by Abraham Scarritt (19:16) at 39th.

RCC soccer splits bids in R2 play

Redlands Community College women’s soccer team slipped to 1-1 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings following a 4-0 shutout loss to Rose State College.

The setback came on the heels of a 4-0 win over Connors State College as the Cougars are now 3-1-1 on the season.

Ashanti Lewis scored two goals in the win over Connors State, while Danielle Cameron and Paige Treat had one goal each.

Jordan Willeford and Elizabeth Bolton had an assist each.

Okarche run-rules Union City, Chieftains

OKARCHE - Callie Cramer and Lawson Geheb hit home runs in back-to-back innings as Okarche High School’s fast-pitch softball team run-ruled Class A’s 15th-ranked Union City 8-0.

The win was the third shutout in a row for unranked Okarche after beating Calumet (13-0) and Dover (8-0) to move to 12-8 on the season.

In the win over CHS, Geheb hit a homer, tossed a perfect game and struck out nine batters to reach 300 for her career.

Union City High School’s baseball team won the Mulhall-Orlando Invitational with a 9-1 decision over Class 2A’s eighth-ranked Oklahoma Christian Academy.

The Tigers, ranked ninth in Class A, moved to 13-8 on the fall after beating Dover (No.5/B) 4-3 and Santa Fe South (No.14/2A) 9-2. In the win over Dover, Dawson Davidson hit a walk-off double to score two runs.

The team hit .275 for the tourney, going 19-of-94 with two doubles each from Davidson and Mason Williams. Carson Biffle had a team-leading four base hits, followed by Williams and Davidson with three each.

RCC freshman runner breaks program record in 8,000 meters at Aggie Duels

Freshman Andres Mandujano set a new school record as Redlands Community College men’s cross country team took seventh place at the Aggie Duels, hosted by Cameron University.

Mandujano ran the 8,000-meter (4.97-mile) course in 27 minutes and .08 seconds to place 24th overall. He ran on a 5:27-mile pace.

Mitchel Foster (31:31) was second to cross the finish line for the Cougars in 48th.

Iker Espinoza (32:59) was 54th, followed by Gilberto Rodriguez (33:46) in 55th place and Bryan Doshier (35:19) a spot back. Nicholas Sanders (35:20) took 57th.

Parent describes Minco bus crash fears

It’s the notification no parent wants to receive, but for Julie and David Bilderback, Monday night’s bus accident involving Minco High School’s softball team was the second time the El Reno couple have heard the news their child has been involved in an accident. 

Presley Bilderback, a sophomore, was one of the 13 players and coaches on the Minco bus that rolled several times. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported the bus struck a deer on Highway 152, eight miles west of Highway 81.

Saddle up: Public invited to join USCA Honor Ride

The U.S. Cavalry Association is inviting the public to join in the Honor Ride that will kick off the annual National Cavalry Competition. 

The Honor Ride will take place at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23. Former El Reno School Superintendent Craig McVay, along with officials from the Cavalry Association, will lead the Honor Ride.

They will be joined by military riders from across the U.S. The ride will pay honor to the people who are buried in the historic cemetery at Fort Reno.

Grant to expand Blessing Baskets reach to the elderly

El Reno Blessing Baskets received an Older Adult Grant from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation to purchase new equipment that will help serve more food-insecure senior citizens in western Canadian County.

The funding, for essential equipment necessary to expand capacity and improve efficiency, makes it possible to provide seniors with access to nutritious food and essentials.

The equipment the grant help fund included hydraulic lifts, special carts, shelving and sturdy tables.
