Cheyenne and Arapaho leaders heard last week about proposed legislation designed to help find missing Native American women as well as efforts to better protect children.

C&A Gov. Reggie Wassana hosted the C&A Leadership Luncheon at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Oklahoma City.

The event was attended by elected C&A leaders as well as government officials within the Tribes. Also in attendance were leaders from the Kiowa, Pottawatomie and Apache Tribes.

ER offense struggles in tourney

Missing one of its leading scorers, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team was held to a season-low offensive output in the third-place game of the 2020 Shawnee Invitational.

El Reno took fourth place with a 61-23 loss to the host school, its second of the season to the Wolves. The Indians went 1-2 in the event as Kale Simon’s team did not reach the title game of a tournament for the first time this season.

After a rocky shooting effort in the opening round, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team rebounded with back-to-back wins to claim the consolation championship at the 2020 Shawnee Invitational.

It was the Indians second straight consolation title this month as El Reno, ranked No.8 in Class 5A, improved to 9-7 on the season.

Jennifer Douglas’ team caps the tournament portion of its schedule with a 5-4 record.

El Reno opened the Shawnee run with a 51-45 loss to Class 6A Stillwater after making just 15 baskets and shooting 33 percent.
