NORMAN – Staunch defense and a pair of multi-point runs in the first and fourth periods propelled El Reno High School’s girls basketball team to within one win of a fourth straight trip to state.
El Reno, ranked eighth in the state, defeated No.16 Guthrie for a third time this season 52-28 Thursday night in the semifinals of the Class 5A, Area 2 Consolation Championships.
The Indians improved to 15-11 on the year and move into the consolation title game against No.10 Del City.
The two were slated to play Saturday at Moore High School, with tipoff set for 3 p.m.
El Reno High School’s baseball team held off a late-innings rally by Oklahoma Christian Academy for a 5-4 win over the Eagles and a series sweep to kick off the 2020 season. El Reno is now 2-0 on the year after winning its season opener at the Hub Reed Complex with an 8-0 shutout of the Eagles.
“We have been battling the flu and strep the last two weeks but the kids did a good job of piecing things together and playing through not feeling good to get two wins over a good OCA club,” said El Reno head coach Keith Hill.
