Calumet couple to celebrate 60th anniversary with family

Bob and Sharon Daughety of Calumet will be honored on their 60th wedding anniversary with a private celebration on Saturday at their home with their children and spouses.

The luncheon will include a white single cake with silver drizzle and diamonds along the bottom to represent their diamond anniversary and a cake topper made out of silver glitter with their names on it.

First Christian, Wesley United to hold Blue Christmas services

First Christian Church and Wesley United Methodist Church will hold their third annual Blue Christmas services by Zoom on Saturday, Dec. 19 beginning at 5 p.m.

“Blue Christmas services recognize that this is not ‘the most wonderful time of the year’ for everyone,” said Pastor Colton Lott.

“The year 2020 has been hard for everyone. Then add on folks who are grieving the loss of loved ones, who are estranged from their families, who are weary from the cold or frazzled by trying to keep up with the Joneses.”

Prairie Surf Media will get eight years to use the Cox Center as a soundstage for film production, according to terms of a lease agreement approved by the Oklahoma City Council.

Country mourns loss of true American aviation pioneer

An American icon and one of the most famous pilots to ever grace the skies, U.S. Air Force Captain Charles E. “Chuck” Yeager passed away Dec. 7.

Yeager was an Air Force officer, flying ace and record-setting test pilot who in 1947 became the first person to break the sound barrier, becoming the first pilot to exceed the speed of sound in level flight.

El Reno High School’s boys basketball team dropped a spot in the latest Class 5A poll from ninth to 10th despite a season-opening 74-33 win over Harrah. The Indians are one of four Suburban Conference teams in the top 20 of the poll and five overall, with Del City holding down the fourth spot in the Class 6A rankings. Ranked ahead of EHS
in the 5A poll are Carl Albert (3) and Shawnee (5).

The team is slated to play at home Friday night against Piedmont. Games with Shawnee were canceled last week due to weather.
