Okarche High School has announced Lions and Lionesses chosen for August through November.

Those selected for this recognition must be a junior or senior and are chosen for their scholarship, leadership, willingness to help others, self-motivation and self-discipline. August/September honorees are Evan Endres and Lexi Taylor. October honorees are McKenzie Stewart and Trenton Niederer. November honorees are Payton Kerby and Mackenzie Schneiter. 

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the fall 2020 semester.

Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll have completed 12 or more credit hours and have earned a GPA of not less than 3.8, with no grade less than a B – excluding 0-level courses.

The Vice President’s Honor Roll recognizes students who have completed 12 or more hours of coursework and have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, with no grade less than a C – excluding 0-level courses.

Fresh Anointing Church will hold a chili cook-off on Sunday, Feb. 7 after the morning service which starts at 10:30 a.m.

There will be a prize given for the best chili. All are encouraged to come out and worship and enjoy a bowl of chili, then go home and watch the Super Bowl.

Every Wednesday night at 6 p.m., the church has started back with Dinner and a Bible Study. The dinner is free to the public.

The church has been practicing social distancing for months, and will continue doing so until the mandate is lifted.

Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, has announced fall 2020 graduates, including Alana McKinney of El Reno, graduating with a Master of Science in Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner.

KINGFISHER – An 8-0 run to start the second period proved to be a key turning point as Class 4A’s top-ranked Kingfisher pulled away from El Reno High School’s boys basketball team for a 64-40 victory – its 11th in a row.

The non-conference loss dropped El Reno, which slipped to 15th in the latest Class 5A poll, to 6-7 on the season.

Logging yet another dominant wire-to-wire effort, El Reno High School’s wrestling team rolled to a 66-12 road victory over Santa Fe South last week.

The Indians, ranked sixth in Class 5A, improved to 5-1 in duals and were slated to wrestle this weekend in the Chickasha Invitational.

El Reno never trailed the St. Bernards as Nikko Gonzalez got a forfeit win at 106 pounds, followed by Hunter Yeakey’s (113) 30-second fall over Valeria Jimenez.

COVID-19 continues to play havoc with the schedules for Canadian County prep basketball teams as two schools lost or had games postponed due to the virus.

El Reno High School’s girls basketball team, ranked eighth in Class 5A, had its game with Class 4A’s 11th-ranked Kingfisher canceled last week. The Indians are 8-4 on the season.

The game was called off after seven players for El Reno were placed into quarantine after an opponent in the recent Shawnee Invitational tested positive for the virus.

After a tough three-point loss to open a recent tournament, Okarche High School’s boys basketball team has reeled off four straight wins en route to a consolation title in the Coyle Invitational.

The win streak has lifted the unranked Warriors to 8-9 on the season.

Okarche opened the Coyle tourney with a 54-51 loss to Okeene, but rebounded to beat the host team (90-45) and Crescent (50-46) to win the consolation trophy.
