Senior Raley Hartley belted out three extra base hits as El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team closed out a 14-game road slate with an 8-5 win over Clinton.

El Reno went 6-8 over the road trip, which started Aug. 29, following a 10-3 loss to Carl Albert the day before to close out District 5A-2 action.

The Indians finished third in the standings with a 7-5 record behind the Titans and Piedmont.

The Indians won four of the final five games of the road slate, three of those wins coming in district play to make the jump from fifth to third.

Putting games and eventually matches into the win column continues to elude El Reno High School’s volleyball team after a close 3-1 loss to Noble last week.

The 23-25/19-25/25-16/22-25 setback dropped El Reno to 3-13 on the season. The Indians are now 1-2 in the Suburban Conference standings with their ninth straight loss.

El Reno had opportunities to win the first two games but blew a 9-2 lead in the opening game.

The Indians then held a 23-21 lead before allowing four straight points by the Bears, three of those on errors.

David Dunn and Melissa Stringer are familiar with El Reno.

The couple live in Yukon and will often drive over for an onion burger or to take in special events such as A Small Town Weekend and Smoke on the Water.

Dunn has friends in El Reno. He once bought a used bus from Midwest Bus Sales and his friend, David Tinsley. He painted it lime green and used it to advertise his Oklahoma City bar known as Margaritaville.

He also tried to get the late Mark Gilmore to come work for him when he was operating an establishment that featured steaks.

Gary Baumwart and others have been working for months to prepare for the arrival of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that will arrive in El Reno on Wednesday.

The Wall, a replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall that stands in Washington, D.C., will travel from the Canadian Valley Technology Center, starting at about 10 a.m., said Karen Nance, executive director of the El Reno Chamber of Commerce.

It’s scheduled to travel west on Route 66 before turning north onto Rock Island, headed to Heroes Plaza in downtown El Reno.

United Way of Canadian County kicked off its annual campaign with a breakfast Sept. 15 at the Dale Robertson Center in Yukon.

The funds raised from this year’s campaign will go to support 16 partner agencies providing health and human services to Canadian County residents.

“We are thrilled to begin our 2023 campaign season,” said Craig McVay, United Way of Canadian County Advisory Board president.

“Together, we can rally for the health of local Canadian County residents with your support. There is power in giving.”

Elections were held recently at Roblyer Learning Center for new Student Council officers.
