Jerald Gene Bollinger, 87, of Chanute, Kansas, whose life was deeply rooted in the land he loved, passed away on April 12, 2026, at Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center. He was born on June 5, 1938, in Union City, Oklahoma, to Clarence and Allene (Hale) Bollinger.

Jerald Bollinger, a lifelong rancher, farmer and entrepreneur, passed away surrounded by those who knew and respected his strong work ethic and love for life.

ER drops 5A-1 set to Bluejays

Though playing to a one-run game after three innings and logging 12 base hits, El Reno High School’s baseball team was outscored 11-1 over the final four innings of a 17-6 to the Guthrie Bluejays.

The 11-run loss at the Hub Reed Complex, coupled with a 17-1 road setback to the Bluejays, left El Reno with an 11-15 record for the spring and a 5-8 mark in the District 5A-1 standings.

Though it has a home makeup game with Noble April 29, El Reno will finish fifth in the standings and will be on the road for the playoffs.

Trimming 29 strokes from its first crack at Duncan’s Golf and Tennis Club Course, El Reno High School’s girls golf team earned its way back to state for a fourth straight year.

Playing in the Class 5A Regional, one of two in the state, El Reno shot a 380 tally to take fifth place out of 11 teams entered. The top six squads advance to the Class 5A Oklahoma Girls State Golf Championships, being held at Shangri-La Resort on May 4-5.

Heads-up plays put EHS girls in playoff hunt

A pair of heads-up plays in the second half catapulted El Reno High School’s girls soccer team back into the playoff picture following a 2-0 victory over Guymon on senior night.

El Reno snapped a two-match slide with the shutout of the Tigers and moved to 4-7 on the season.

The Indians are currently 2-3 in the District 5A-2 standings, which is fifth, but can move to fourth with road wins over Western Heights and Guthrie.

The top four teams in each district make the playoffs.

Indians hang tough in postseason chase

Vicente Saldana Barbosa netted one of three breakaway scoring attempts in the first half to spark El Reno High School’s boys soccer team to a wire-to-wire 2-1 victory over Guymon.

It’s El Reno’s first win over the Tigers since 2022 and keeps the Indians in the hunt for one of four playoff spots from District 5A-2.

Joe Patton’s team is now 7-4 on the season and 2-3 in the district standings for fifth place. El Reno, with two matches left, is a game back of Carl Albert for fourth and a game and a half out in a tie for second with Classen SAS and Guymon.

Redlands headed to nationals

Redlands Community College women’s golf team punched its ticket to nationals by retaining the NJCAA Central Region Women’s Golf Championship for a second straight year.

The Cougars, playing at Woodlands Hills Golf Course in Nacogdoches, Texas, carded a 36-hole total of 641 (320-321) to beat out Texans Blinn (646) and Tyler (679) junior colleges to win the title.

Seminole State College (696) and Illinois-based John A Logan College (750) rounded out the top five.

Home course knowledge did not favor the Indians last week during the 2026 El Reno High School Boys Invitational held at Crimson Creek Golf Course.

El Reno took eighth place with a 366 total, with only one golfer breaking 90. Piedmont won the event with a 326, followed by Comanche (327), Plainview (331), Okarche (339), Byng (342) and Guthrie and Southwest Covenant tied for sixth at 363.

Charles Woolworth paced the Indians with seven pars en route to a round of 86 (41-45) to place 19th in the individual medalist chase.

Midwest City sweeps ER tennis team in dual

Body

El Reno High School’s tennis team is still looking for its first dual win of the season after dropping a 7-0 road decision at Midwest City.

The Indians are 0-3 on the year after losing three matches in boys action and four on the girls side to the Bombers.

El Reno did, however, win 20 games in the setbacks.

Sergio Rosas fell 6-2/6-3 to Terrynece Hooks in No.1 singles, while Jacob Richey lost in straight sets to Hesse Gonzales at No.2 singles.

Kale Overholser and Kyler Graham lost in straight sets in No.1 doubles.

Calumet splits games, UC wins four of five

Body

Despite posting 50 hits over the final four games of the regular season, Calumet High School’s slow-pitch softball team heads into the district round of the Class A playoffs with a two-game losing streak.

The Chieftains dropped a 13-5 game to state-ranked Lookeba-Sickles (No.4/B) and a 10-9 bid with Garber after beating the Wolverines 16-1 in the other game of a doubleheader.

Calumet rallied from a 12-3 hole at home to defeat Varnum (No.17/A) 23-15. The split of the four games left the Chieftains, ranked No.10 in Class A, with an 18-8 record.
