Letter to the Editor: Memorial mural for Duran

To the Editor:

Our community is still reeling from the heartbreaking loss of Sgt. Duran, a true hero who gave his life protecting us. In response to this tragedy, we are coming together to create a Memorial Mural that will honor his sacrifice and the dedication of all our local law enforcement officers.

This mural will serve as a place of healing and remembrance for Officer Duran, his family and the entire community.

El Reno firepower downs Jets

It took only a few minutes for El Reno High School’s football team to dash any notions of a letdown after being eliminated from the playoffs a week earlier.

El Reno closed out its 2025 campaign with a 54-0 shutout of Western Heights to finish with a 4-6 overall record.

The shutout was the third in a row over the Jets and the seventh in the series dating back to 1972.

El Reno has now won seven straight games over Western Heights and closed the District 5A-2 race in fifth place with a 3-4 record.

Calumet sweeps UCHS in bedlam hoop action

Body

Extending its winning streak over its cross-county rival, Calumet High School’s boys basketball team pushed five players into double digits in a 98-57 win over Union City.

With the season-opening win, the Class B’s defending state champion has won 12 straight games over the Tigers under head coach Jacob Mayfield.

Union City slipped to 1-1 on the season.

Calumet scored 20-plus points in all four periods including 29 in the second period to secure a 51-21 halftime lead.

Cougars split classic games

A day after eclipsing the century mark for the second straight game on offense, Redlands Community College men’s basketball team gave up a triple-digit effort on defense.

The Cougars dropped a 102-79 game to Allen County Community College to slip to 2-2 on the season.

The loss came on the heels of a 104-72 victory over South Central Prep.

Treston Gage scored 31 points total for the two-game set with eight rebounds. Glenn Bishop Jr. had a 31-point 14-rebound effort, while Justice Johnson followed with 23 points and eight boards.

RCC women win two bids

Body

After dropping the season opener, Redlands Community College women’s basketball team has rebounded to win back-to-back games.

The Cougars defeated Cowley County (60-48) and Pratt Community College (73-50) to move to 2-1 overall.

Haven Joseph logged 22 points and 12 rebounds for the set, followed by 20 points, nine boards and four steals from Myracle Washington. Ainslee McComas was close behind with 18 points and two boards.

Whitney Wollenberg finished with 13 points and four boards, while Karlee Harviston had 12 points and nine caroms.

A tribute to Veterans Day

El Reno High School students have researched and written about veterans with local ties who have served this nation over the many years.

Students in Brian Rukes’ AP English 3 class spent weeks pouring through records and finding details about these American veterans, many who gave their lives in the line of duty.

The Tribune is honored to share some of these articles with our readers in today's edition that includes a special tribute to Veterans Day.

Reed was serving as a Unified Partner for a classmate with special needs during the 2025 Special Olympics Oklahoma area bowling qualifier. Schools along Route 66 in the area competed in the event.
