BTO, Marshall Tucker Band to play Lucky Star

Bachman-Turner Overdrive has been added to the Lucky Star Amphitheater Aug. 1 show along with the Marshall Tucker Band. 

In 2023, Randy Bachman revived BTO, the legendary rock and roll band behind worldwide hits such as “Takin’ Care of Business” and “You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet,” and has continued to tour since 2024.

Led by Bachman, BTO has recently revamped its lineup.

Caddo Nation partners with Oklahoma university for job training program

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma technology university announced it has formed a partnership with the Caddo Nation to give its members enhanced training in the renewable energy and construction fields.

Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology, which is based in Okmulgee, said it will work with the Caddo Nation Economic Development Authority to have the new program operational by fall.

Funeral services for Enos Alfonso Svitak Jr. of El Reno were held Thursday, July 17 at Wares Chapel in Anadarko, with burial in the Wares Cemetery.

Services were under the direction of Ray and Martha’s Funeral Home.

Mr. Svitak died July 11, 2025. He was born Sept. 20, 1957, in Anadarko, and attended Anadarko schools.

He worked with the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes, retiring in 2008.

Softball kicks off preseason missing pieces

Bri Michalicka can’t wait to see her team together on the field at the same time, even though her El Reno High School softball program kicked off preseason drills last week.

Michalicka moved the first four days of team practices to one-on-one instruction sessions since she had only six available players. Ten varsity players were at church camp and four more were with their travel ball teams at national tournaments.

Lamplighters OHCE holds meeting at Mount Zion Church

Lamplighters OHCE of Canadian County met recently at Mount Zion Global Methodist Church, with Carol Stine calling the meeting to order.

Donna Wehmuller read a devotional titled “Source of Joy.”

Maxine Little read minutes from the last meeting and gave the treasurer’s report.

Wehmuller offered the lesson on “Flowers Here and Forever.” She made each member a resin floral magnet.

The group sent donations to the 4-H Scholarship Fund and the 4-H annual banquet.

Leota May (Randall) Harman, a beloved small-town seamstress, cherished wife, devoted mother and loving grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully July 9, 2025, at St. Katharine Drexel Retirement Home.

Born May 5, 1938, to Newton and Nellie Randall, she was raised in a close-knit community near Okarche. She attended the dependent school district of Mountain View until eighth grade and graduated from El Reno High School in 1956.

Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier

El Reno’s Brecken Haglund recently competed in the Sub-Regional qualifier at Lincoln Golf Course in Oklahoma City.

He advanced to the Regional Finals in Frisco, Texas, set for Oct. 5. He competes in the 12-13 age division.

The Drive, Chip and Putt competition comprises three stages: Local Qualifier, Sub-Regional Qualifier and Regional Finals. The winner of the Regional Finals earns a spot to compete in the National Finals at Augusta National the week preceding the Masters.

This achievement marks Brecken’s fifth consecutive qualification to the Regional Finals.

ODOT seeks input on future transportation priorities

The Oklahoma Department of Transportation is asking the public to provide input on the future of transportation across the state. The new edition of the Long-Range Transportation Plan evaluates long-term trends, community needs and emerging technologies to establish transportation priorities through 2050.
