Louise Hope McNew

Body

Louise Hope (Galloway) McNew was born Feb. 20, 1931, in Shawnee, Okla., to Baxter and Louise Galloway. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Jan. 5, 2025, in Oklahoma City.

Hope’s family moved to El Reno in 1941, where she became a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of El Reno, joining at the age of 17.

On March 20, 1948, Hope married the love of her life, Olin McNew, at First Baptist Church. Together they built a life centered on faith, family and service.

El Reno shoos away Owls in district play

Both its offense and defense look to be running at full strength as El Reno High School’s girls basketball team picked up its first District 5A-1 sweep of the season with a 68-27 road win over Elgin.

El Reno was coming off a 76-3 win over Santa Fe South, which set season-best marks for both scoring and points allowed. The 73-point blowout was the largest winning margin of the year and featured 24 steals.

Indians defense, dunks and 3-pointers highlight 28-point win over Elgin

Over a tough five-day stretch, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team came two points shy of fulfilling a team defensive goal of holding each opponent to under 50 points.

The Indians moved to 13-0 on the year with an 80-52 road decision over Elgin to earn a season-sweep of the Owls in District 5A-1 play. The 28-point victory came two days after El Reno posted wins over Tulsa Memorial (45-43) and Santa Fe South (87-46) in less than 24 hours.

RCC women fall to SSC, Norsemen in Region 2 play

Body

Redlands Community College women’s basketball team suffered back-to-back losses for just the second time this season after dropping games to Seminole State College (62-47) and Northeastern Oklahoma A&M (64-53).

The two-game slide moved the Cougars to 9-6 on the season and 2-2 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings. Redlands is tied for fourth with Northern Oklahoma College of Tonkawa.

Cougars poor shooting leads to end of streak

Thirteen missed layups and a 2-of-22 effort from the 3-point line signaled an end to a 10-game win streak as Redlands Community College men’s basketball team lost a road game at Seminole State College 85-61.

The loss to the Trojans dropped Redlands to 15-3 on the season and came on the heels of a 103-90 victory over Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, ranked third in the nation, three days earlier.

Redlands is now 3-1 in the NJCAA Region 2 standings and tied with NEO and Murray State for the lead.
