Couple to celebrate 60th anniversary

Bruce and Deanna (Stepp) Carroll will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary.

They were married July 25, 1964, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Jack James officiating.

The couple have three children, Tammy and Joe Garrett, Tracy Carroll and Kevin and Kalen Carroll, six grandchildren, Zackary and Broghan Garrett, Zane and Kaitlyn Garrett, Kaydee Garrett, Garrett and Paris Carroll, Chandler Carroll and Brittney Carroll Wilson, as well as seven great-grandchildren, Colton and Everly Garrett, Kobe and Shiloh Garrett, Reese and Rose Carroll and Hayden Carroll.

ER Wranglers hold cookout

The El Reno Wranglers held their annual cookout recently at Adams Park.

Members discussed the upcoming rodeo set for Aug. 2 and 3 at the Denny-Crump Arena.

The club welcomed new members, the Sears family and the Phillips family.

Next regular meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Aug. 8 at the 4-H building.

Theodore Mulanax

Theodore Smith Mulanax, age 91, of El Reno, passed away peacefully July 11, 2024.

Born Sept. 11, 1932, in Chickasha, he was the youngest of seven siblings.

Ted was a proud veteran, serving in the Air Force for four years, starting in 1953.

Later in civilian life, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as a Lead Electronics Technician for 35 years, before enjoying his retirement.

Chapter AE of Philanthropic Educational Organization gathers

Chapter AE of P.E.O. (Philanthropic Educational Organization) of Oklahoma met recently at a local coffee shop. President Christy Eichholz gave highlights from the recent state convention. She reported the new state president, Dana Bertrand, gave a list of cascading goals for the 2024-25 year: Champion the Advancement of Women, Promote Philanthropic Vitality and Strengthen Chapter Vitality. She also announced the new theme, “Seize the Day in P.E.O.” and gave three challenges for the Oklahoma chapters.

There were 147 chapters represented and 121 new initiates were added this year.

Raymond Gerald Price was born June 24, 1929, in Mangum to Rex and Ruth (Carpenter) Price.

He passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024, in Edmond at the age of 95.

El Reno head softball coach Bri Michalicka (above) held her first youth skills camp recently.

More than 40 young players took part in three days of skills training such as fielding, throwing, catching and base running.

The event ended with snow cones and a slip and slide.

El Reno High School begins its 2024 preseason drills Monday.

Bobbie Kirkegard

Services for Bobbie Lee Adams Kirkegard, 95, a former Minco resident, will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, July 19 at Minco First Baptist Church, with burial to follow at the Evergreen Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Bobbie passed away July 12, 2024.

City to raze old Ponderosa Motel

The old Ponderosa Motel will be coming down, but not until asbestos is removed from the dilapidated eyesore condemned by the city.

City Manager Matt Sandidge said the property at 2408 Sunset Drive was found to have a considerable amount of asbestos.

This led to the city bringing in a professional asbestos removal company. That firm designed a plan for the city which was acceptable to the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality and the Oklahoma Department of Labor.
