Heading into district play, El Reno High School’s football numbers for the season on both sides of the football are better than a year ago at this point.

Both El Reno High School’s cross-country teams continue to show marked improvements in both times and overall finishes two meets into the 2023 season.

Dalton Belcher belted out a pair of doubles and drove in four runs as Calumet High School’s baseball team closed out the fall regular season with a 14-1 win over Sentinel. The win sends the Chieftains, ranked second in the state in Class B, into the postseason on a nine-game win streak.

While Union City has been hit by the rainout bug, Calumet High School’s fast-pitch softball team was able to sneak in a game with cross-county rival Okarche last week. The Chieftains slipped to 4-18 on the season with a 15-2 loss to the Warriors.

Redlands Community College women’s soccer team returns home Sunday to host Northeastern Oklahoma A&M seeking an end to a three-match losing streak.

El Reno will celebrate aviation as the Fourth Annual Air Show and Community Day at the El Reno Regional Airport expects to soar on Saturday, Sept. 30. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m and is free and open to the public.

A Warr Acres company has been awarded a $10 million contract to build a new roundabout at SH 66 and U.S. 81. The Oklahoma Transportation Commission, at its Sept. 11 meeting, awarded a $10,030,072.14 low bid contract to Redlands Contracting LLC for the intersection modification project.

Improvements at El Reno Regional Airport are expected to continue after city leaders signed off on contracts and grant proposals aimed at upgrades for the municipal airport. City council voted unanimously on the planned airport improvements. The action came at last week’s regular meeting.

El Reno High School will host an All Classes Alumni Homecoming Day Rally on Friday. The event will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Jenks Simmons Field House, with a get-together open to all EHS grads and guests. At 9 a.m., a sign-in will be held with name tags and graduation year coordinated.

The 2023 El Reno High School All Sports Homecoming Ceremony will be held Friday night at 6:30 prior to the start of the home football game with Elgin at Memorial Stadium. One of these EHS male and female students will be crowned king and queen.
