Foreign farmland ownership a detriment to national security

Body

Everyone in Oklahoma is keenly aware that food security is national security. A nation that cannot feed itself cannot hope to defend itself.

Because of this, it is essential we protect our farmland, especially from foreign adversaries. For far too long we’ve seen entities - Chinese in particular - coming over and buying our agricultural land. That’s why I’ve led on several fronts to address this troubling issue.

Are these the hottest days ever?

Body

Undoubtedly you heard that several days in early July were the “hottest days ever” for good old Planet Earth. The source of that story was an entity called Climate Reanalyzer, affiliated with the University of Maine.

It is worth noting that even the federal government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which usually supports the global warming narrative, hastened to point out that the figures cited by Climate Reanalyzer were unofficial and based on computer climate programs, not actual measurements. Hmmm…

El Reno driver extends hometown win streak

Body

Carrying a two-year win streak into the 2023 Smoke on the Water Drag Boat Races, El Reno’s Matt Miller wanted nothing more than to take the checkered flag once again in his signature event – Pro Stock.

While fate and physics had a different plan for a three-peat, Miller still drove into the winners circle with an undefeated record – in the Modified class.

“A win is a win no matter what class it is. Winning in front of your home crowd is always good and I really appreciate all the support and the city of El Reno for giving us a place to play with our hot rods.

City buys vacant convenience store to spur economic growth

Body

Looking to pump more life into the downtown, the El Reno City Council pushed through with the purchase of an abandoned convenience store, the intention being to attract a new eating establishment to the area.

Council voted 5-0 last week to spend $350,000 to acquire the property at 300 S. Rock Island.

The convenience store has been vacant and boarded up for several years. City Manager Matt Sandidge said the chance to attract a “major eating and entertainment establishment” to the downtown area provided the incentive for the city to make the move.
