Expo Center reports $22M economic lift

The Canadian County Expo and Event Center has generated a roughly $22 million economic impact since opening nearly two years ago.

Center of Family Love raises over $1 million for innovative future

The Center of Family Love’s 10th annual Gift of Love Gala raised more than $1 million for those with disabilities.

The event was hosted at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

The Center of Family Love honored former Sen. Mike Johnson and his wife, Judy Johnson, who quietly spent a better part of their lives championing for the rights of individuals and families with developmental disabilities and neurodiversity.

Fines issued for holiday celebrations

El Reno police handed out three citations for fireworks violations over several days during the Fourth of July holiday.

Assistant Police Chief Kirk Dickerson said the department received numerous calls from residents reporting fireworks being set off in their area of town. Dickerson said officers investigated each call. Three instances resulted in the citations being issued. El Reno levies a $295 fine for discharging fireworks in the city limits.

Dickerson said the Fourth of July celebration at Lake El Reno was a great success.

Tinker airshow

Tinker Air Force Base hosted its airshow after a multi-year hiatus.

The U.S. Navy's Blue Angels F-18 Super Hornets were among the wide range of aircraft flown at the airshow. Among other planes were the military’s F-35 and Super Galaxy.

Guilty plea entered in misdemeanor charge

Body

Canadian County’s former elections chief has received a deferred sentence and fine in a case stemming from uncounted votes in a 2020 election.

Wanda Armold pleaded guilty June 28 in Canadian County District Court to the charge of failure to perform duties. Armold is the former secretary of the Canadian County Election Board.

The misdemeanor was filed Jan. 11 by Angela C. Marsee, the district attorney for Beckham, Custer, Ellis, Roger Mills and Washita counties.

Michael Kenton Redding

Michael Kenton Redding, 43, of Oklahoma City, unexpectedly passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023. He was born Aug. 20, 1979, to William K. “Ken” and Laurel (Hume) Redding.

He was born in Weatherford and lived in Hydro before moving to El Reno in 1985.

Michael graduated from El Reno High School in 1998. A talented musician, Michael learned to play French horn and was part of the jazz band playing the saxophone. He lived there until 2017 when he moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to his family.
