Funeral services for Alan Ray Morton were held Monday at the Concho Community Center with Rev. Waylon Upchego officiating. Burial was in the Morton Family Cemetery in Geary, under the direction of Turner Funeral Home.

Alan passed away April 4, 2023, at his home in Anadarko.

He was born June 15, 1990, in Lawton and grew up in Okmulgee, Anadarko and El Reno and attended El Reno High School.

El Reno earns first district win despite missing four key players

Playing four players down due to suspensions from a controversial loss to Southeast, El Reno High School’s girls soccer team made some mid-game lineup shifts against Midwest City.

Bri Vickers came out of the net into an offensive position midway through the first half and scored the game-winning goal against the Bombers.

El Reno’s 1-0 victory snapped a three-match losing streak as the Indians improved to 4-5 on the season. The win lifted EHS into sole possession of seventh place in the District 5A-2 standings at 1-3.

Funeral services for Lena Mae Crabtree were held Monday at Hinton Church of Christ with Jimie-Wray Mead and Rev. Mike Davis officiating. Burial was at Niles Cemetery under the direction of Turner Funeral Home.

Lena Mae passed away April 6, 2023, in Binger, She was born Oct. 17, 1934, at home in Canadian County. She graduated from Hinton High School. Over the years, Lena Mae worked at Sickles schools as a cook, ran Kimberly’s Restaurant in Binger, sold Avon, and worked at Crossroads until retiring to the farm. She was a member of the Hinton Church of Christ.

Three players chipped in goals for El Reno High School’s boys soccer team as the Indians took over sole possession of seventh place in the District 5A-2 standings with a 5-1 decision over Midwest City.

El Reno improved to 3-6 on the season and 1-3 in the league with its highest goal count of the season.

Angel Martinez found the net twice, one of those on a penalty kick set up when teammate Jeremy Moreno was fouled inside the keeper box.

Martinez added two assists.

Onion burger aroma lands El Reno on top 100 diners list

The aroma of El Reno’s onion burgers has reached far and wide as evidenced by a recent poll that shows El Reno among the top 100 cities in the United States when it comes to diners.

Released by RestaurantClicks.com, the poll has El Reno as the 50th top town for diners. Tulsa, at number 58, is the only other Oklahoma city included in the list.

Plant Days under way

El Reno’s Ross Seed Co. is holding its annual Plant Days sale this weekend.

The annual event offers thousands of blooming plants and hanging baskets along with all planting accessories.

The multi-day event kicked off Thursday and runs through Saturday.

Lucas to hold town hall meeting

Congressman Frank Lucas (OK-03) will hold a town hall meeting on Wednesday at Redlands Community College.

The gathering is open to the public and will run from 10 to 11 a.m. in Room MM-125.

Lucas will be discussing recent work in Congress, taking questions about issues important to constituents of the 3rd Congressional District, and seeking input on legislation currently before Congress.

El Reno Animal Shelter adopts new policies due to outbreak of upper respiratory infection

El Reno’s Animal Shelter is hoping prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Major Kirk Dickerson, assistant police chief, said due to a recent outbreak of a highly contagious and deadly upper respiratory infection which affects animals and has spread in the surrounding area, the El Reno Animal Shelter will not be accepting strays brought in from the public or owner-surrendered pets.

Dickerson said the policy is in effect “until further notice.”

Palmer wins school board runoff vote

Eric Palmer, 33, defeated Ronnie Funck, 74, in the El Reno School Board Office No.3 race, winning every precinct.

Palmer and Funck faced off in the Tuesday runoff. The two were the top vote-getters in the earlier February election that also featured Roberta Hamilton.

Palmer is employed with Gemini Coatings in El Reno. He is involved in customer service and financial matters at the employee-owned business.

Both Palmer and Funck are graduates of El Reno High School.
