The ABCs of 988: When to call and what happens next

Depression and Bipolar Support Alliance of Oklahoma is hosting a free Wellness on Zoom event featuring Tony Stelter, director of Oklahoma’s 988 contact center, on Tuesday, Dec. 13 at 6:30 p.m.

988 is the new 3-digit number that replaces the old 1-800 Suicide Crisis Line that was launched last July 16.

988 is now more than just a suicide crisis line, as people can call with a wide variety of mental health issues.

People can call or text 988 to be connected with a trained behavioral health professional.

Inhofe, Lankford join forces with Cruz to protect Route 66

WASHINGTON — U.S. Sens. Jim Inhofe (R-Okla.), James Lankford (R-Okla.) and Ted Cruz (R-Texas) introduced S.5170, which would amend the National Trails System Act to designate Route 66 as a National Historic Trail. Importantly, this legislation incorporates important safeguards to ensure no future potential harm to energy development projects occur as a result of the designation.

Annual Christmas Dinner set for Dec. 24

The El Reno Annual Christmas Dinner will be held at Wesley Methodist Family Center, 101 S. Barker, on Dec. 24 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy fun and fellowship along with turkey and dressing, potatoes and gravy, green beans, cranberry sauce, bread and desserts.

Funeral services for Martin D. Long were held Thursday, Dec. 8 at the CrossBridge Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Mark Fryar officiating.

Burial followed in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Marty died Dec. 4, 2022, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 3, 1958, in El Reno. He graduated from El Reno High School Class of 1977, graduated from El Reno Junior College and attended Central State University.

Growing up, Marty loved racing motor cross bikes, making it to national competition.

Senate Pro Tem Treat announces GOP leadership team

OKLAHOMA CITY – Senate President Pro Tem Greg Treat announced his Republican leadership team for the upcoming 59th Oklahoma Legislature that begins in February.

“I have chosen these individuals to help lead our caucus and work with the committees to ensure we are passing legislation that is in the best interest of Oklahomans,” Treat said.

Funeral services for Tamara Ann Bryant were held Thursday at the Cedar Lake Chapel with Revs. Daylon Kirkland and Brian Archer officiating.

Burial followed in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Tami died Dec. 5, 2022, at her sister’s home in Yukon. She was born July 22, 1965, in El Reno. She lived at Cedar Lake where she was a member of Cedar Lake Chapel and Cedar Lake Fire Department. For 20 years she worked at Lyanna’s Lakeside Convenience Store and Grill.
