Alito’s opinion helps move court back to Constitution

Body

Justice Samuel Alito’s majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization holds that both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey must be overturned.

The predicted impact on elective abortions has been well-rehearsed in the print and electronic press and on social media.

In the case before the court, Mississippi’s Gestational Age Act was upheld, making abortion in that state illegal after 15 weeks.

Smoke to command waters alone

Body

If you are a fan of drag boat racing, you will have only one chance this year to catch some of the quickest non-capsule crafts fly across Lake El Reno.

The 2022 Smoke on the Water, set for July 22-24, will be the lone show on local waters after the Southern Drag Boat Association removed the Hunter Showdown from its 2022 schedule.

The showdown, held on Lake El Reno in early fall, was one of the final points races on the SDBA schedule the last two years.

Harvest

Body

Nick Owen can relate to the sticker shock Oklahomans are experiencing when going to the grocery store to buy products made from wheat that he and other county and state farmers have grown.

“Our hands are tied. We have no bearing on what food prices are. It’s just like any other commodity, be it a slaughter steer or wheat, you take it to market and this is what they are giving you.

“We have no say in what grocery stores or restaurants are charging. We are paying the same thing as everyone else,” said Owen.
