Richardson trims shots off second trip to state tourney

Trimming 36 strokes from his total at state as a freshman, El Reno High School sophomore Bryan Richardson placed 74th in the medalist chase at the 2022 Class 5A Boys State Golf Championships.

Playing the 6,601-yard course at Duncan Golf and Tennis Club, Richardson carded rounds of 109/100/105 for a 54-hole total of 314.

Redlands eyes run for top five

Body

Consistent play at the halfway point has put Redlands Community College in position to make a run for a top five finish during the 2022 NJCAA Women’s National Golf Championships.

Playing the par-72, 5,941-yard Mayfair Country Club course in Sanford, Fla., Redlands was sitting in eighth place after 36 holes with a team total of 661.

The Cougars, after posting rounds of 330/331, are six strokes behind Eastern Florida State (655) for seventh and eight shots behind Dodge City Community College (653) for sixth.

Thinclads miss state tickets from 5A regional

El Reno High School’s 2022 track season came to an end at the Class 5A West Regional held at Putnam City, with no thinclads advancing to the state meet.

The Indians had no field event entries for either boys or girls and the runners were primarily in the shorter distances.

Maria Moreno was 11th in the preliminary heats of the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.09 seconds, followed by Gracie Wieland (14.64) in 14th and Madeline Taylor (15.57) in 16th.

Miller medals

Body

Minco sophomore Daigan Miller won gold medals at the recent Class 2A state meet in Catoosa.

She ran a 5:29.84 in the 1,600 meters and a 12:03.35 in the 3,200 meters.

Miller is the daughter of Dale and Deah Miller, granddaughter of Brenda and Allen Miller and niece of El Reno’s Matt Miller.

El Reno High names top students for Class of ’22

The 2022 valedictorians for El Reno High School are Kylee Chandler, Reese Davis, Mariana Esparza Torres, Hailey McBroom and Wyatt Mehan.

These students earned this distinction by obtaining all A’s during their high school career and taking 13 Pre-AP and AP courses with an AP course in each core subject.

Carlie Golden is the 2022 salutatorian. She took the same number of Pre-AP and AP classes and has the next highest GPA.

Reese Davis is the daughter of Megan Reed and Terrence Davis. Her siblings are Ryleigh, Raleigh, Kiera, Addison and Tre.

Week of Hope

Each summer, a free weeklong camp is offered to Canadian County children who have been affected by sexual abuse, physical abuse or witnessed violence in some way.

The vision of the camp is to help break the generational cycle of family violence by offering healing to youth who have experienced abuse. The camp is now accepting applications for campers and counselors.

El Reno slides out of playoffs with Ike losses

PIEDMONT – In a near repeat of last year’s postseason run, El Reno High School’s baseball team exited the Class 5A, Region 1 Championships with two losses to Lawton Eisenhower.

El Reno ended its season with a 17-20 record after dropping a 1-0 contest to the Eagles in the elimination round. Lawton Eisenhower held off a late rally by the Indians in the opening round of the regional for a 7-5 win. In the contest, El Reno led 1-0, giving up seven runs in the bottom of the first inning before chipping away at the deficit.

Patswald places 64th in Class 5A state tourney bid

El Reno High School junior Madison Patswald placed 64th overall as an individual medalist last week during the 2022 Class 5A Girls State Golf Championship.

Playing at Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club in Kingston, Patswald carded rounds of 114 and 112 for a 226 total.

Durant won the team title with a 632 tally for 36 holes, followed by Tulsa Bishop Kelley (669) and Carl Albert (683).

The Suburban Conference had two other teams make state as Piedmont (773) was sixth and Guthrie (785) was seventh.

National Land and Range Judging Contest held at Concho

Nearly 850 4-H and FFA students and over 250 coaches from 34 states gathered May 5 for the 69th National Land and Range Judging Contest.

After two days of practice at sites in the Oklahoma City area, the contest was held at Concho on the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribal lands.

The Oklahoma Association of Conservation Districts (OACD) was the primary host along with about 30 additional sponsors.
