Funeral services for Virgil Roger Surveyor of El Reno were held Friday, May 13 at Wilson Funeral Home with burial following at the Concho Cemetery.
Virgil passed away May 8, 2022, in Oklahoma City. He was born Nov. 28, 1935, in Canton to Wisdom and Anne Surveyor. He was one of seven kids.
He attended schools all over, but mainly in El Reno and Denver, Colo.

Shooting the fourth highest team score in the final round, Redlands Community College’s golf team slipped to ninth place in the final standings at the 2022 NJCAA Women’s National Golf Championships.
The Cougars fired their lowest score of the tourney, a 321, in the third round to enter the final day in seventh place.
However, Redlands carded a 339 over the final 18 holes to drop two spots.
Redlands, playing the Mayfair Country Club course in Sanford, Fla., posted scores of 331/330/321/339 for a 72-hole total of 1,321.
Attending his final school board meeting, El Reno Public Schools Superintendent Craig McVay sat quietly reading over the agenda when a group of educators came walking into the meeting late.
Following close behind were McVay’s family including wife, Darla and mom, Kay. After a few quick double-takes, a small grin spread over the face of the longtime educator.
“I would like to say that nothing surprises me but this caught me completely off guard. I don’t know how you all managed to do this but thank you,” said McVay.
El Reno’s 34th Annual Burger Day Festival was a blast.
Literally.
For the first time in the colorful history of the Big Burger event, it concluded with a fireworks show that lit up downtown El Reno.
It was a fitting end to a day that saw thousands of people converge on the downtown to enjoy the full flavor of Burger Day after having it trimmed back the previous two years because of the COVID pandemic.
And what a draw the full festival turned out to be. Visitors from all over the globe found their way to El Reno to take part in the festivities.
The combination of Cinco de Mayo and a cause that protects and celebrates the indomitable spirit of survivors was a winning one last week, as Intervention and Crisis Advocacy Network’s first ever fundraiser succeeded beyond anyone’s expectations.
“It was a great turnout and great evening. I think ICAN had the best entertainment and the best crowd for such a great cause on Cinco de Mayo,” Executive Director Matt Whetzel said.
Fees are going up at the El Reno Regional Airport as well as Crimson Creek Golf Course and while the aviators didn’t offer much push-back, the same couldn’t be said for the Men’s Golf Association and one city council member.
Councilman Pete Stapperfend cast the lone no vote against raising the rates 15 percent at Crimson Creek.
City officials said the hike will mean about $30 more per month for those golfers holding annual golf passports.

The Oklahoma City Community Foundation has selected three El Reno High School seniors to receive $3,000 scholarships for the 2022-2023 academic year through the Community Foundation’s Community Foundation Scholars Program.
Those three seniors are Kaitlyn Awbrey, Jovanna Espinoza and Olivia Walters-Hunt.
The Community Foundation Scholars Program is one of hundreds of scholarship opportunities at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation that benefit more than 800 students with a total of $2.8 million every year.
