Funeral services for Sunbeam Kaulaity Wallace were held Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Geary, with burial in the Geary Cemetery. Services were under the direction of Turner Funeral Home.

Sunbeam passed away April 14, 2022, in Oklahoma City. She was born July 12, 1962, in Lawton. She graduated from Anadarko High School and attended Haskell Indian College.

El Reno sticks run into solid pitching, defense in 89’er bids

After tagging Kingfisher for a double-digit hit total in the opening game of the 2022 Guthrie 89’er Invitational, the wins and the base knocks seemed to dry up for El Reno High School’s baseball team.

El Reno slipped to 13-15 on the season with a 1-3 showing in the event.

Playing out of the Kingfisher bracket, the Indians defeated the Yellowjackets 7-1 but would follow it up with losses to the Oklahoma City Broncos (6-3), Midwest City (8-0) and Class 2A’s eighth-ranked Morrison (11-2).

El Reno left out of top 10 in Bluejays tourney

While three of its four entries in the 2022 Guthrie Invitational found match success, El Reno High School’s girls tennis team missed out on placing any of those players in the top 10.

El Reno’s No.2 doubles team of Bri Barksdale and Mary Almanza were the highest placers at 13th with a 2-2 record.

The Indians No.1 doubles team of sisters Melanna and Allynda Idell were 15th with a 1-3 record, defeating a second entry from Christian Heritage Academy 6-2/6-0. The pair lost to Ardmore (0-6/0-6), CHA’s top squad (3-6/3-6) and Oklahoma Bible Academy (3-6/1-6).

EHS places in top 10 at Trosper Park

Body

Fueled by senior Shayne Castrop’s second straight sub-100 round, El Reno High School’s girls golf team placed in the top 10 at the 2022 Del City Invitational.

Castrop shot a round of 96 to lead El Reno’s 425 team total. Emma Patswald carded a 105, followed by a pair of 107s from Madison Patswald and Kallie Maifield.

Berkley Kidd-Smith rounded out the team scoring with a 109. Skylar Ayers, playing as an individual medalist, shot a 102.

Young boys hurt in ATV accident

Body

Two young boys were seriously injured when the 8-year-old driver of an ATV failed to stop at an intersection and their vehicle collided with another vehicle, El Reno police said.

Major Kirk Dickerson said police were called just after 6:30 p.m. April 8 to the area of East Watts and South Mitchell after callers reported the accident.

Officers reported the two juveniles, one 8 years old and the other 6 years old, were on the ATV going south on South Mitchell.

El Reno’s Oklahoma Trapshooting Association Park, located off Jensen Road, played host to the 2022 Oklahoma Scholastic Shooting Sports Program’s State Shoot last week.

El Reno was one of many high schools to qualify a team and individual shooters for the event.

Commissioner races form after early candidate filings

As of Thursday morning, two races had developed for Canadian County commission seats, while one candidate each had filed for the treasurer and assessor positions.

Incumbent Marc Hader, 58, of Yukon filed for District 1 County Commissioner as did Tom Manske, 54, Yukon. Both filed as Republicans.

The District 3 Commissioner District had two candidates file. Tracey Rider, 60, of El Reno filed as a Republican as did Robert Merrick, 38, of Yukon.
