The vacancy was one of the items discussed in executive session by the board at its regular meeting last week. No action was taken or discussion held on the matter once the board reconvened in open session.

Contractor seeks to add fuel charge to proposal

Body

Rising fuel costs have prompted a Canadian County contractor to ask county commissioners to add a fuel surcharge clause to six-month bid proposals.

Chad Brown of Brown Transportation said he wanted to “open up the idea” at the commissioners March 21 weekly meeting.

The Ardmore-based company, which has five locations, hauls rock to road project sites in Canadian County.

“Fuel for any trucking company is a major expense,” Brown said. “When fuel goes up as we’ve seen here recently in the last week and a half – $1.50 a gallon – it does affect our operating cost.”
