Ronald Ray Laughlin was born March 26, 1955, and went home to be with Jesus on Feb. 8, 2022.

He grew up in El Reno, where he met his high school sweetheart, Nancy Royse Laughlin.

They graduated from El Reno High School in 1973. He attended Oklahoma State University and always said he would never have gone to college but he was afraid to let Nancy get away.

They were married after their freshman year of college in 1974, and he went on to earn the honor of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from OSU in 1980.

Mark Feddersen

Body

Marcus Dale Feddersen, a lifelong resident of Canadian County, died unexpectedly at the age of 66 on Feb. 5, 2022, in Wittman, Ariz.

Mark is survived by his daughters, Marci Feddersen of El Reno and Makyla Tipken and husband, Shawn of El Reno; his grandchildren, Dax Tipken of El Reno, Layton Tipken of Union City and Emilia Tipken of Norman; great-grandson, Micah Steepe of Norman; and numerous family members and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Edward and Wanda June (Whitlow) Feddersen, and brothers, Rickie Feddersen and Harold Feddersen.

Juanita Galvan

Juanita S. Galvan was born Jan. 25, 1971, to Nancy Alvarado-Galvan and George A. Galvan in Chicago, Ill.

She moved to Oklahoma in 1998, and she lived the remainder of her years in El Reno, where she had three children, Victoria, Mario and Samantha.

Juanita loved her Yorkies deeply. She enjoyed going to the casino, Starbucks and going out to eat. Juanita had the biggest heart and was always there to help no matter what.

Juanita passed away Feb. 8, 2022, at St. Anthony’s in Oklahoma City.

She was the second youngest of five children.

Body

Memorial services for Arthur Clayton Bensmiller will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Friendship United Methodist Church in Minco. Burial with military honors will follow at the Friendship Cemetery, under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Art passed away Feb. 5, 2022, at his home in Chickasha. He was born Aug. 31, 1934, in Detroit, Mich., and was raised in Detroit. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Art worked for the Department of Transportation until his retirement.

Thomas powers Calumet into area; Okarche, UCHS advance in playoffs

Post player Lilly Thomas shot 63 percent from the field as Calumet High School’s girls basketball team steamrolled over Marlow Central to win the Class A, Area III District 8 Championship.

The unranked Chieftains improved to 16-10 on the season and will play seventh-ranked Oklahoma Christian Academy in the Region C winners bracket semifinals on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Thomas was 12-of-19 from the floor and added two free throws en route to her line of 26 points, four steals, three rebounds and a blocked shot.

Warriors, Chieftains win districts; Tigers second

P.K. Harris turned in a double-double effort as Okarche High School’s boys basketball team moved into the regional round of the Class A playoffs with a 73-55 win over Yale.

The Warriors, ranked 17th in the state, moved to 17-7 on the season with the 28-point victory which came in the Area II, District 2 Championship game.

Okarche moves into the semifinals of the Region A winners bracket and will play Wellston Thursday.

Harris was one of three Okarche players in double digits with 27 points to go along with 13 rebounds, two steals and a pair of assists.

Graveside services for Mary Sleeper Little were held Monday, Feb. 14 at the Concho Cemetery, under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Mary died Feb. 10, 2022, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City. She was born Nov. 16, 1950, in Lawton and was raised in Lawton and Anadarko.

She was a homemaker and enjoyed sketching and drawing.

Housing news puts award-winning plan into focus as ER prepares for growth

It would appear El Reno’s highly acclaimed Route to the Future long-range development plan arrived just in time. The plan, adopted in 2021, lays out a path for community development for the next 20 years.

It projects El Reno growing by 9,000 people during this time period. Some news coming out of last week’s city council meeting might tempt planners to increase that population estimate.

Stewart to run for District 18 Senate seat

Body

In a surprise move, a Canadian County commissioner has decided against running for a fourth term and instead will seek a state legislative seat.

District 3 Canadian County Commissioner Jack Stewart will not file for re-election in April.

Stewart, 72, said he intends to run for the new Oklahoma Senate District 18 in this year’s election cycle. Senate District 18 will officially move from eastern Oklahoma on Nov. 23 after the 2022 elections.
