El Reno resident Joe Garcia made good on a bucket list trip this summer, attending a bullfight in Tijuana, Mexico. Garcia, an avid sports photographer, captured numerous photos of the bullfight in progress. He said all eight fights he witnessed ended well for the bullfighter, not so for the bull.

Native American Royalty was on hand at the El Reno Municipal Building last week to help kick off the 31st Annual Oklahoma Indian Nation Pow Wow. The event, held at Concho, featured traditional Native American dance, food, music, a 5K Buffalo Run and entertainment.

The driver of a truck was struck by a Union Pacific train and killed Friday near N.W. 234 and Country Club Road, said Sarah Stewart, Oklahoma Highway Patrol spokeswoman.

Canadian County CASA Inc. (Court Appointed Special Advocates) welcomes new volunteers Erin Harrington and Julie Simeroth. The pair completed advocate training with a court observation and swear-in at the Canadian County Children’s Justice Center.

Memorial services for Jeffrey Warrner Watt of Cogar will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 6 at the RV Clubhouse at Lake El Reno. Jeff passed away July 24, 2021. He was born Dec. 1, 1961, in El Reno. He was employed as maintenance with El Reno Public Schools and was a member of Chiliwonkers.

Memorial service for Lindell Marie Brown will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at Huber-Benson Funeral Home with Rev. Craig E. Johnson officiating. Lindell died July 21, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. She was born Oct. 12, 1950, in Okarche to Minnie and Lafayette Russell.

Memorial service for Chauncey Moore will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Geary Cheyenne-Arapaho Community Building with Donovan Birdshead officiating. Services are under the direction of Turner Funeral Home, Hinton.

El Reno High School graduates Riley Connor and Jaylin Reveles represented their alma mater last week as members of the West squads during the 2021 Oklahoma Coaches Association’s All-State Games. Other than football, the games were contested in venues around the Tulsa area.

The Indians have had one road scrimmage at Rush Springs and will play a preseason festival at Mustang on Friday and open the season Aug. 10 against Bishop McGuinness.
