El Reno High School’s volleyball team has taken the court at the Jenks Simmons Field House annex a dozen times this season, but come Monday, it will be a different feel for the Indians.

Kristen Koehler’s team, ranked sixth in the final state poll, was awarded one of the four host sites on the west side of the state. The Indians will welcome 11th-ranked Glenpool along with Del City and Guymon for the Class 5A, Region 6 Championship.

El Reno High School’s football team was left without a game Friday night after Capitol Hill was hit with a case of COVID-19 which left the Red Wolves without enough players to take on the Indians in District 5A-1 action. The Indians will head south Thursday to take on Duncan.

Piedmont rallies for five-game win over ER

For the second straight year, Piedmont has stolen a win from the grasp of El Reno High School’s volleyball team.

The Indians, ranked sixth in Class 5A, closed the regular season last week with a 3-2 loss to the No.8 Wildcats after squandering a two-game lead. Piedmont rallied for the five-set win by scores of 23-25/23-25/25-9/25-20/15-10.

El Reno heads into the playoffs with a 22-6 record, while Piedmont improved to 16-13. Both schools will be hosting regional championships on Monday as top seeds.

Cougars clinch third fall title

Three fall tournaments in the books and Redlands Community College’s golf team has brought back three championship titles, the latest coming last week with a 12-stroke victory at the Dornick Hills Classic.

The Cougars circled the famed course in Ardmore with a three-round total of 962, leading wire-to-wire over Texas Wesleyan University, which was second at 974. Redlands had team scores of 330/318/314.

Graveside services for Annabell Reichert will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10 in the El Reno Cemetery with Pastor Pat Sutherlin officiating.

Annabell passed away Oct. 1, 2020. She was born in Celeste, Texas, to her parents, Albert S. and Lillie Alice Nelson on April 14, 1922. Her mother passed away when she was 2 years old, and she went to live with her Uncle John and Aunt Mattie Williams in Hugo.

She went to school in Hugo, and after graduation attended East Texas State College in Commerce, Texas, pursuing a teaching degree in mathematics.

Beth Ann Sherek

Beth Ann (Hoselton) Sherek was born March 18, 1964, in Oklahoma City to Gordon and Georgie (Turner) Hoselton. She passed away Oct. 3, 2020, in El Reno.

Beth attended El Reno High School and graduated in 1982. She married the love of her life, James Sherek, on Nov. 9, 1985, at First Church of the Nazarene in El Reno. Together the two of them enjoyed spending time together and going on drives. From their marriage came their beautiful, miracle daughter, Georgie.

Pat Archer Clark

Memorial services for Pat Archer Clark will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2020, at Wesley United Methodist Church. Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Pat passed away Sunday, Oct. 5, 2020, at the Hospice House in Oklahoma City. She was born March 11, 1936, in El Reno where she attended school and graduated in 1955.

Larry Dean Boyer

Funeral services for Larry Dean Boyer were held Thursday, Oct. 8, 2020, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Dick Kurtz officiating. Burial followed in the El Reno Cemetery.

Larry passed away Oct. 5, 2020, peacefully in his home surrounded by his beloved family. He was born Oct. 30, 1943, in Geary to Lawrence and Marietta (Baker) Boyer.

Larry was a graduate of El Reno High School Class of 1962. He worked at Western Electric Company, which later became AT&T, until his retirement.
