While the COVID-19 pandemic canceled El Reno High School's prom, parents and supporters were able to pull together a similar event two months later.
Called MORP, or prom backward, the event was held last week at the Elks Lodge with glitz, glamour and dancing.
A high-speed chase that started in Okarche ended in downtown El Reno after sheriff’s deputies used a maneuver to bring the Chevrolet pickup to a halt.
Okarche Police Chief Forrest Smith said 28-year-old Bradley Arlen Revel of Oklahoma City was taken into custody after the pursuit ended about 11:30 Friday morning.
Smith said he saw the pickup going north into Okarche on U.S. 81 at a high rate of speed, 73 in a 45 miles per hour zone.
He pursued the vehicle, but lost it when it turned west onto Oklahoma Blvd.
A call for volunteers to help form a posse for the Canadian County sheriff is getting some pushback, including from a former Yukon mayor.
Last week, Sheriff Chris West said he is looking for volunteers to help form a posse to serve different aspects of the sheriff’s office.
West said the group would focus on benevolent activities such as helping those in need.
The idea did not sit well with John O’Bannon.
O'Bannon served as Yukon’s mayor in the mid-1990s. He said he is concerned about the connotations that the name “posse” brings with it.
Oklahoma House Democrats called Wednesday for creation of a new state entity to investigate complaints against local police, a new statewide registry of police who resign from office, and a citizens panel that will review law-enforcement standards.

Canadian County District Court records show Dylan Demars Elledge, 28, entered a guilty plea last week in court.
His sentencing is set for 1:30 p.m. July 21 before District Judge Paul Hesse.
Elledge was arrested in November of 2018 in El Reno following the death of Matthew Ryan Little Elk, 28.

Graveside services for Deloris Ann Smith were held Monday in the El Reno Cemetery with Pastor Garrett Miller of Victory Christian Fellowship officiating. Services were under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.
Deloris died June 11, 2020, at Integris Hospice House in Oklahoma City. She was born April 3, 1955, in Oklahoma City. A longtime resident of El Reno, she previously lived in Houston, Texas, where she raised her family. She was a medical technician and enjoyed watching movies.

Race relations with the local police will be the topic when El Reno hosts a Town Hall meeting, said Mayor Matt White. White, police officials, members of the city council along with city staff are expected to meet with the public at 6 p.m. on Thursday, June 18.
The meeting will be held at the Centre Theatre, 110 S. Bickford, and is open to all. The theatre was chosen to provide enough space so people could feel comfortable not having to wear a mask.
