Indians blitz Lawton Ike with first-period treys, post 78-43 win
Knocking down six 3-pointers in the first period, El Reno High School’s boys basketball team posted a 78-43 wire-to-wire victory over Lawton Eisenhower last week in its 2022-23 home opener.
El Reno improved to 2-0 on the season after scoring the first 16 points of the contest, four of those coming off a technical foul against Ike. Carter Roman Nose made one of the two free throws, then buried a corner 3-pointer off the inbound play.
Roman Nose had four treys in the first period, three of those in the 16-0 run to open the game. Matthew Tofpi and Alex Elizondo added a trey to that run which covered the first 3:27 of the contest.
El Reno went on to lead 28-7 after one frame as Evan Roman Nose added two baskets and Carter Roman Nose closed the quarter with 15 total points. Phoenix Whiteshirt added a bucket and James Reveles a free throw.
The Indians closed the half with eight 3-pointers as Elizondo hit two in the second period to pace an 18-10 scoring edge to give El Reno a 45-17 halftime lead.
El Reno added two more 3-pointers in the second half, one each from Tofpi and Carter Roman Nose, and ended the game shooting 55 percent (11-of-20) from the arc for the game. The Indians were 16-of-29 from 2-point range and closed the game shooting 55 percent overall.
The Indians led in second-chance points (12-8), points in the paint (28-10), rebounds (39-26), assists (19-5) and steals (9-7).
Carter Roman Nose topped all EHS scorers with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and a steal. Reveles was close behind with 15 points, six boards and a block, while Evan Roman Nose led those in single digits with nine points, eight assists and five boards.
Diante Palmer, Elizondo and Tofpi scored eight points each and combined for 13 rebounds, eight assists and five steals – four by Tofpi. Jacob Robertson and Whiteshirt added four points each and Braydon Rickey a 3-pointer.
