Calumet High School's softball team posted a 1-5 record in festival events at Elk City and Verden to kick off the 2021 season.

The Chieftains, under new coach Karly Murray, defeated Geary 10-0. The losses were to Alex (14-5), Fort Cobb-Broxton (10-0), Verden (15-3), Fort Supply-Fargo (12-0) and Woodward junior varsity (13-3).

Calumet posted a .370 team batting average for the six games, going 17-of-46 from the plate, leading to 21 runs scored. The team drew 13 walks but struck out 16 times.

Timberland Smith (.833) went 5-of-6 to lead the team, logging a triple and driving in three runs. Tina Ortiz (.600) added three hits and two ribbies, followed by two hits and an RBI from Kylee Smith (.500).

McKinley Stilley (.333) and Presley Stilley (.300) had two hits each. Allie Harris led the team in runs scored with three.

Union City logs three wins

The Tigers improved to 4-2 on the season after posting a 3-1 record in the Verden Festival.

Union City defeated Alex (5-1), Rush Springs (6-5) and Verden (9-5), but dropped a 7-0 game to Fort Cobb-Broxton.

Over the four games, Union City went 18-of-74 from the plate for a .243 average. Makenna DeLong (.545) had a double and six hits total, followed by Oceanna Schranz (.556) with five singles.

Haylie McCoy (.250) added two base hits. Kaitlyn Linson, Kylie McCoy, Makinzie DeLong, Payslie Locke and Savannah Walker posted a hit each.
