Private family service for Vernon Lee Bomhoff, 81-year-old Weatherford resident, was held Friday, April 3, 2020, in the Lockstone Funeral Home Chapel with Brother David Lawrence officiating. Burial followed in the Greenwood Cemetery under the direction of Lockstone Funeral Home.

Vernon was born May 29, 1938, in El Reno to John Otto and Gladys (Brown) Bomhoff and passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2020, in Yukon. Vernon was raised and attended school in El Reno, graduating with the Class of 1956. 

He was drafted into the U.S. Army serving his country for four years. Vernon worked for the Federal Correctional Institution in El Reno in 1964 and retired at the age of 50.

Vernon married Joyce Janelle Hornbeck in 1977. Vernon worked at the Hinton Correctional Institution and retired as the assistant warden in 1994.

He and Joyce were married for 44 years.

Vernon enjoyed OU football, traveling, especially to Europe, and looking for antiques.

His family will remember him as loving his grandchildren.

Vernon is survived by his wife of their home in Weatherford, Joyce Bomhoff of Weatherford; daughter, Susan Schwarz and husband, Kelly of Yukon; son, Bradley Bomhoff and wife, Anna of Bethany; daughter, Krista Bomhoff of Weatherford; stepchildren, Tony Holly of Dallas, Texas, and Vaughn Avritt and wife, Carolyn of Weatherford; brother, Earnie Bomhoff and wife, JoAnn of El Reno; one sister, Marie Davis of Wimberly, Texas; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, “Buddy” Earl Bomhoff.
