Graveside services for Mary Lou Thomas of El Reno will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the El Reno Cemetery Pavilion with Gary Henson of London and Macomb Church of Christ officiating.

Services are under the direction of Wilson Funeral Home.

Mary passed away Sept. 25, 2019, at OU Medical Center. She was born Jan. 11, 1937, in Catron, Mo., to William and Myrtle Harris.

She grew up in Gracemont and moved to El Reno in 1951. She was a 1954 graduate of El Reno High School.

Mary married Charles “Sonny” Thomas on Aug. 17, 1957, and they made their first home in Corpus Christi, Texas, where Sonny was stationed with the U.S. Navy.

Mary was a homemaker and had been employed with Walmart until retirement. She had served as a volunteer with Mobile Meals and Russell-Murray Hospice.

Mary enjoyed her flower garden, visiting with her neighbors and weekly luncheon meetings with her grief group friends and Wednesday morning meetings with her church ladies group. She enjoyed watching OU football games and especially wearing all her OU attire to lovingly antagonize her OSU friends.

Mary dearly loved her family and friends and was admired for her quiet strength and courageous battle with leukemia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sonny in March of 2014; and her brother, Billy Ray Harris.

Mary is survived by her children, Vicky Joyner and husband, Danny of Yukon and Bill Thomas of Bethany; grandchildren, Jason Rhea and wife, Heather of Bixby and Jessup Thomas of Oklahoma City; two great-grandchildren, Hadley and Hayden Gibson of Bixby; many other relatives and dear friends; and her dog, Chewy.

Memorial donations may be made to Mobile Meals, Church of Christ or Russell-Murray Hospice.
