El Reno girls score game’s opening 23 points, steamroll the Eagles in home bid 61-19
Scoring the first 23 points of the game, El Reno High School’s girls basketball team opened up its 2022-23 home slate with an impressive 61-19 win over Lawton Eisenhower.
El Reno, now 2-0 on the season, dominated on both ends of the floor after holding the Eagles to 10 first-half points and blanking the Eagles offense in the first period.
The Indians led 18-0 after one period as five players contributed to the effort. Lilly Thomas and Nazhoni Sleeper scored six points each, while Emmary Elizondo, Pauline Black-Harmon and Bryhanna Blackowl scored a basket each.
Elizondo scored the first five points of the second period, putting El Reno up 23-0, before Ike scored its first basket of the game with 6:24 left in the half. The Indians outscored the Eagles 14-8 the remainder of the frame for a 37-10 halftime lead. Nine of those points were off 3-pointers from Reagan Bugaj, Jaylynn Washington and Elizondo.
El Reno’s defense held Ike to a free throw in the period and nine points for the half to secure the 42-point win. The Indians shot 41 percent (26-of-63) from the field but were 22-of-42 (52 percent) from inside the 3-point arc.
The Indians led in transition points (14-2), points off turnovers (19-2), paint points (38-10), rebounds (50-24), assists (17-5), steals (11-5) and blocks (6-1).
Elizondo led all scorers with a line of 16 points, four rebounds, four steals and three assists. Sleeper followed with 11 points, seven assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Bugaj and Washington closed with five points apiece. Carley Kihega, Thomas, Black-Harmon and Blackowl scored six points each.
Black-Harmon had a team-high 12 rebounds, while Thomas and Blackowl logged nine rebounds each.
