Two convicted felons could face longer prison stays for allegedly assaulting sheriff’s deputies and another inmate and carrying weapons at the Canadian County Jail.

Yukon’s Bryan Leonard Snodgrass, 24, and Oklahoma City’s Samuel Ray Parsons, 24, were charged July 30 in Canadian County District Court with assault and battery on a police officer, possession of contraband (weapon) by an inmate and assault and battery.

Snodgrass faces four counts and Parsons faces one count of assaulting a police officer stemming from an incident reported May 5 at the Canadian County Jail.

The Canadian County District Attorney’s Office alleges Snodgrass struck four sheriff’s deputies and Parsons struck one deputy, trying to injure them while they performed their official duties.

The victims are listed as Austin Moore, Katie Wade, Jeremiah Igo and Troy Sanchez.

Court documents describe both Snodgrass and Parsons striking Moore “with closed fists multiple times,” Snodgrass striking Wade “with closed fists multiple times and kicking her head and chest,” and Snodgrass striking Igo “with his shoulder and kicking him.”

The crime is punishable by up to five years in prison and/or a $500 fine.

Snodgrass and Parsons are both accused of having in their possession a “wooden handle fragment sharpened for use as a weapon” while being an inmate at the county lock-up, the court record indicates.

This felony crime is punishable by five to 20 years in prison.

Prosecutors also have charged the two defendants with assault and battery for striking another inmate, convicted sex offender Edwin L. Edwards of McAlester, “multiple times with force and violence.”

This misdemeanor crime is punishable by up to 90 days in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

Snodgrass and Parsons face accelerated sentences if convicted on these new Canadian County charges because of past criminal convictions. Both men already were in jail on previous felony charges.

Snodgrass has pending charges in Canadian County for possession of a credit card belonging to another, second-degree burglary and larceny of an automobile.

He previously was convicted of second-degree robbery in Oklahoma County, larceny in Cleveland County and assault and battery on an Office of Juvenile Affairs employee in Tillman County.

A preliminary hearing conference for Snodgrass is set for Aug. 18 before Special Judge Khristan Strubhar.

Parsons has pending charges in Canadian County for accessory to first-degree murder, assault and battery and assault and battery on a police officer. He previously was convicted of second-degree burglary, unauthorized use of a vehicle and concealing stolen property in Oklahoma County and assault and battery on a police officer in Tillman County.

A preliminary hearing conference for Parsons was set for Aug. 20 before Special Judge Charles Gass.
