Charges filed in Duran death
Alleged driver of car that struck police officer faces two felony counts, passenger accessory
Formal criminal charges have been filed by the Canadian County District Attorney’s Office in the death of Sgt. Thomas A. Duran as a result of being hit by a motor vehicle on Oct. 17.
El Reno Police Chief Ken Brown issued the statement announcing the charges on Friday morning.
Sgt. Duran, 41, a 14-year veteran of the El Reno Police Department, was hit by a vehicle around 2 a.m. Oct. 17. Duran was outside his vehicle after he had stopped to assist a pedestrian who had reportedly waved him over. He died a week later in an Oklahoma City hospital.
The driver of the vehicle, Logan Reese Primeaux, 27, from El Reno, has been formally charged with one count of second-degree murder and one count of leaving the scene of a fatality accident, both felony offenses. Primeaux is being held in the Canadian County Jail with bail set at $600,000.
Additionally, Michelle Shy Ann Black, 27, from El Reno was identified as a passenger in the vehicle driven by Primeaux.
Black has been formally charged with accessory to a felony. Black is being held in the Canadian County Jail with bail set at $100,000.
