Calumet, Okarche sending both basketball teams to Elite Eight

For the first time since 2009, Calumet and Okarche high schools have qualified both boys and girls teams to the Elite Eight brackets in their respective classes for the 2026 Oklahoma Basketball State Championships.

The feat, 17 years in the making, was set up after both boys teams won their area championships, while the girls squads earned state passes through the consolation side.

The Calumet boys claimed the Class B1, Area I title with a 79-39 victory over No.11 Hammon. The Chieftains, ranked second in the state, improved to 26-3 on the year.

Soccer hosts

El Reno High School’s soccer teams hosted 17 other schools Saturday for the EHS Spring Classic.

The preseason event was spread out over four different fields in Adams Park.

El Reno opens the regular season Tuesday at U.S. Grant.

El Reno was slated to kick off the 2026 spring season Monday against Midwest City.
