Lucas votes in favor of NDAA legislation

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. House of Representatives passed the FY 2026 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA).

Rep. Frank Lucas, R-Oklahoma, voted in favor of the legislation and released the following statement.    

“Today, for the 65th consecutive year, Congress came together to fulfill the paramount duty of supporting America’s warfighters, bolstering military installations and improving America’s military readiness,” said Lucas.

Services for Susan Ann “Susie” Ast of Chickasha were held Tuesday, Sept. 16 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Union City, with burial following at the Evergreen Cemetery in Minco. Services were under the direction of Huber-Reynolds Funeral Home.

Susie died Sept. 12, 2025, at her home. She was born April 30, 1948, in El Reno. She was raised in the Minco community, graduating from Minco High School in 1966. She then attended Oklahoma School of Banking and Business.

Fourth down frustrations

Two fourth-down offensive miscues in the third period by El Reno High School’s football team would lead to 14 points for Weatherford as the Eagles handed EHS its second straight shutout loss, 17-0.

El Reno closed the non-district portion of its 2025 schedule with a 1-2 record and has now lost the last five meetings with the Eagles.

Weatherford led 3-0 at the half before blocking a punt by El Reno senior Rustyn Cook midway through the third period. The loose ball was recovered at the Indians 12-yard line.

El Reno High School’s volleyball team, ranked 12th in Class 5A, dropped a 3-0 match to Class 4A’s seventh-ranked Weatherford.

El Reno shut out by Bombers, splits games in Noble Festival

El Reno High School’s fast-pitch softball team dropped two of three games in close battles last week, one of those coming in a key matchup in District 5A-2 play.

The Indians fell 2-0 to league-leader Midwest City to slide to 2-3 in the 5A-2 standings for fourth place, two games back of Guthrie. 

El Reno then took part in the Noble Festival, beating Norman (8-7) and falling to Ponca City (5-0). The split left the Indians with a 6-10 overall record.

With deep love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, the family of Irene Marie Krittenbrink announces her peaceful passing on Sept. 10, 2025, in Kingfisher, Oklahoma, at the remarkable age of 100.

Born in El Reno, Oklahoma, to Marie Heber and Andrew Theodore Wolf on July 4, 1925, Irene’s life was a radiant reflection of her unwavering Catholic faith.

Police report lake area accident

El Reno police said a vehicle and pedestrian collided Friday night near Lake El Reno. 

Police said the pedestrian was taken from the scene by air ambulance.

There are no reports on the current condition of the injured party but police said he was alive when taken by the air ambulance.

Teen, mom recall emotions following Minco bus crash

“I was gripping for my life, I was like gripping and pushing like it was a roller coaster or a ride.”

El Reno teenager and Minco High School sophomore Presley Bilderback vividly remembers bracing herself between seats on the team bus as she and 12 other teammates and coaches were involved in a rollover crash along Highway 152.
