Enid artist Tox Murillo (lower right) sprays paint on some of the final sections of a mural he is creating on the side of the Redlands Community College gymnasium.

Murillo said he expects to have the mural, the second he’s done locally, completed in a few days.

Relation Insurance acquires El Reno’s Advantage assets

Relation Insurance Services has acquired the assets of Advantage Insurance Group. The transaction went into effect May 31. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

“Our new partnership with Relation takes our business to the next level,” said Geoff Eaton, owner of Advantage Insurance Group.

Remodel plan eyed to house new judge

An office space has been identified for a new Canadian County special judge.

County commissioners discussed a plan for county maintenance personnel to remodel an area on the second floor the Canadian County Judicial Building for another judge and bailiff.

Canadian County will have a fourth special judge after passage of House Bill 2771 during the 60th Oklahoma Legislature. Increases in population and caseload allowed the county to fill this new judicial position after July 1.

Virginia Phelps

Virginia Phelps, who made her home in Yukon, Oklahoma, was born in Tuscola, Kentucky, on Aug. 20, 1933, the daughter of Jennings Brian Jordan and June Olive Adkins, who preceded her in death. She died peacefully in her sleep June 6, 2025.

Virginia was born and raised in eastern Kentucky during the Great Depression and World War II. Later in life, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked for 40 years at Baptist Hospital in telecommunications. Her real interests were her grandchildren, her many dogs and cats, cooking, candy-making, crocheting and reading.

Clifford Walter Meyer was born to Walter Meyer and Myrtle E. (Maass) Meyer on Nov. 12, 1933, in Okarche, Oklahoma. At home and surrounded by his family, Clifford left to go to his heavenly home on July 5, 2025.

Beverly Huber

Beverly Jean Huber was born Nov. 12, 1941, in Cozad, Nebraska, and was the daughter of Earl and Rose Henninger. She passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, at her home in El Reno. 

Beverly graduated from Lexington High School in 1960. She married Daniel (Dan) Huber on May 28, 1960, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lexington, Nebraska. They were married for 65 years.

Together, they had five children, Russell, David, Vincent, Cody and Dana. She had seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Randall Palmer

Services for Randall Ray Palmer of Yukon were held Thursday, July 10 at First Baptist Church with Rev. Grant Findley, Rocky Carter and Randy Stafford officiating. Burial was in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Randy died July 4, 2025, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Yukon. He was born June 10, 1953, in El Reno to Lloyd Ira and Rose Ella (Pinkston) Palmer.

Proud to be an American, he served in the U.S. Navy and worked for the U.S. Postal Service.

Smoke on the Water turns 25

The year is 2000 and the calendar flipped to a new century, the final Peanuts comic strip appeared in newspapers worldwide and a small drag boat race started on the waters of Fort Cobb Lake. 

Spin forward 25 years and Smoke on the Water will celebrate its 25th anniversary July 25-27 with a professional barbecue ribs cookoff, live band and cornhole tournament.

Not to mention the fastest open boat racing in Oklahoma – Outlaw style.
