OKLAHOMA CITY — In a decisive late-night session on May 29, the Oklahoma Legislature successfully overrode Gov. Kevin Stitt’s veto of House Bill 2584, a measure aimed at enhancing health-care delivery across the state. The House voted 68-16, followed by a 33–13 vote in the Senate, to enact the bill into law by an overwhelming majority of the delegation. 

Authored by House Speaker Kyle Hilbert (R-Bristow) and Senate President Pro Tempore Lonnie Paxton (R-Tuttle), HB 2584 modernizes antiquated language in the Physician Assistant Act and the Pharmacy Act.

Julian Paul Glazier, 26, of Canadian County has been sentenced to serve 120 months in federal prison for illegal possession of firearms after previous felony convictions, said U.S. Attorney Robert J. Troester. 

On Feb. 20, 2024, a federal grand jury returned a two-count indictment against Glazier, charging him with being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition. 

Canadian County commissioners this week approved an agreement to relocate the phone system for county offices during construction of the new county courthouse.

Some county administrative offices will be housed temporarily inside the former Department of Human Services building at 314 W. Rogers and former bail bonds building at 215 N. Evans.

Those buildings have been remodeled for use by county personnel.

Nobel Systems $5,000 price is “a lot more reasonable than I ever expected, that’s really good,” Commissioner Tom Manske said.

OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma House rose for a standing ovation last week after overturning the governor’s veto of a bill expanding access to mammograms for early breast cancer detection.  

Rep. Melissa Provenzano, D-Tulsa, the bill’s author, said the standing ovation was “powerful” and a reminder that people are humans before they are politicians. She was battling breast cancer for the length of the legislative session.  

This year Okarche High School will have a delegate for Girls and Boys State.

Hunter Buck, son of Stephen and Nikki Buck, will attend Oklahoma American Legion Boys State on the campus of Rogers State University.

Maddie Vogt, daughter of Michael and Terri Vogt, will attend ALA Oklahoma Girls State at the University of Central Oklahoma.

Both will spend a week learning about government, leadership and patriotism. 

The Redlands Community College Alpha Beta Upsilon chapter of Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), the international honor society for two-year colleges, garnered numerous regional and international awards.

Dr. Jena Marr, Redlands president, also received the PTK Paragon President Award, an honor for new college presidents to recognize their outstanding support of student success.

Former El Reno resident Muriel “Malley” Pawnee died June 3, 2025, at her home in Oklahoma City.  

A wake will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday, June 8, with funeral services set for 2 p.m. Monday, June 9.

Both services will be at the Concho Emergency Response Center with Rev. Waylan Upchego officiating.

Burial will be in the Concho Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home. 

Funeral services for Jorene Combs will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 10 at Huber-Benson Funeral Home, with burial following at the Concho Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, June 9 at Huber-Benson.

Jorene died June 3, 2025, at her home in Oklahoma City.

Graveside services for Daisy Virginia Anthony will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, June 6 at the Gracemont Cemetery.

Daisy passed away June 1, 2025, at her home. She was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Edmond and attended Gracemont Public Schools.

Daisy was a baker for Cassidy Square and Penn Square Bakeries and later worked at Children’s Orchard as a seamstress.

She dedicated herself to raising her family and managing the home.
