State raids illegal marijuana grow

The Oklahoma Attorney General’s Office confiscated drugs worth more than $6 million Tuesday morning during a raid of an alleged illegal marijuana grow.

AG’s office agents were joined by Oklahoma City police officers and Canadian County sheriff’s deputies at the scene in the 4100 block of North Gregory Road just north of Highway 66.

The AG’s office has undercover task force agents with the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority.

Canadian County District 1 personnel hauled off some 12,172 marijuana plants and clones with an estimated Oklahoma value exceeding $5.5 million.

Marijuana worth an estimated $6 million was removed from about 10 to 12 airconditioned buildings

Louis Warren

Louis Warren of El Reno has left this world to start his new life in heaven. His passing occurred February 27, 2025.

Louis was born at the El Reno Sanitarium December 23, 1949, to Elvis and Mary Warren. He spent his early years on the Warren family farm near Union City. He often recalled the hard work involved with growing up on the farm as the eldest son, but also the many joys life on the farm provided after work was through.

Union City’s Gatz earns AFR’s state scholarship

Body

Kadence Gatz of Union City was recognized as a recipient of the 2024 American Farmers Ranchers (AFR) Cooperative Incoming Freshman State Scholarship at the 2025 AFR Annual Convention held recently in Norman.

Gatz attends Redlands Community College.

AFR annual state scholarships are available to qualified students in all 77 Oklahoma counties. Students are eligible to apply for the AFR Incoming Freshman State Scholarship during their senior year of high school.

Karen Reed

Body

Karen Rae Reed passed away at the age of 74 on March 4, 2025, at Corn Heritage Village in Weatherford. She was a longtime resident of El Reno.

Karen’s life was dedicated to the teaching of mathematics to secondary students, every subject from algebra to trigonometry, statistics and calculus.

She was the first teacher in El Reno Public Schools to qualify as a Master Teacher.

Her students were her children.

Ronald Albers

Ronald Henry Albers lived most of his life in El Reno where he was born Dec. 31, 1940. He was raised in El Reno, graduating from El Reno High School. He served in the U.S. Army and attended Hill’s Business College in Oklahoma City.

Ronnie was a letter carrier retired from the U.S. Postal Service, a member of the National Association of Letter Carriers and a volunteer with Mobile Meals. 

Ronnie died Feb. 11, 2025, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Oklahoma City.

ER opens Big House door

BRIDGE CREEK – A simple message from head coach Jennifer Douglas to her players after the third period ignited a fire that carried El Reno High School’s girls basketball team back to state for a fifth straight year.

“Coach Douglas told us to stay calm, poised and do our job,” said senior guard Raegan Bugaj.

El Reno did just that, rallying from a five-point deficit to defeat Del City 51-48 to win the Class 5A West Area I Championship.
