Calvin Patrick Arnold, age 23, of El Reno, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2025, in El Reno. He was born Sept. 12, 2001, in Oklahoma City to Roy Eugene Arnold and Cynthia Spott Arnold.

Calvin grew up in Yukon attending Shedeck Elementary, Independence Elementary, Yukon Middle School and Yukon High School where he graduated in 2020. Calvin was a very proud team member at Nortek Air Solutions where he began his employment in 2023.

Calvin enjoyed playing sports from an early age, playing soccer, T-ball, ice hockey, basketball and football.

Indians defense lifts Haydon to 300th career win

Rodney Haydon became El Reno High School’s second-ever basketball coach to post 300 career wins and his Indians did it behind a strong defensive effort.

El Reno recorded 18 steals and blocked four shots en route to a 76-36 road win over Guymon to remain unbeaten in District 5A-1 play.

The 40-point win gave El Reno a sweep of the Tigers in 5A-1 play and moved the Indians to 17-1 on the year and 9-0 in district action. In doing so, EHS takes a full two-game lead over both Carl Albert and Lawton MacArthur (7-2) for the district lead.

Winning eight of the final 10 weights, El Reno High School’s wrestling team rallied to defeat 11th-ranked Del City on senior night, 45-26.

El Reno, ranked 13th in the same Class 5A poll, moved to 7-3 on the season with the victory.

The lead switched hands early after Del City’s Evan Colbert (106) scored a 12-0 major decision over Mason Hoffman. The teams swapped forfeits through 126 pounds that left the Eagles up 10-6.

Del City rallies to hand EHS girls first home mat loss 44-28

Despite P.J. Hall’s forfeit win in the final match, El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team lost its last home dual of the season 44-28 to Del City.

El Reno, ranked sixth in Class 6A, dropped to 8-4 on the season.

Two early forfeits and Brooklynn Huggins (110) with a 22-0 technical fall lifted El Reno to an early 22-0 lead.

However, Del City began its rally with a 15-0 technical fall over EHS’ Elena Bowser (115), a forfeit win at 120 pounds and a fall over Kaatje Culp (125).
