Nuisance properties removed from county tax roll by commissioners

For the first time ever, county commissioners took action to remove two properties from the county’s tax roll.

The three commissioners unanimously approved a resolution designating the real estate properties (tax ID numbers 132785 and 134149) as a “common area nuisance” under Oklahoma state law.

The properties are in District 2 within the Mustang schools boundaries.

Local students recognized on UCO honor rolls

The University of Central Oklahoma recently announced students named to the university’s honor rolls, a distinction given to those who achieve the highest academic standards.

For the spring 2024 semester, 1,523 students were named to the President’s Honor Roll, an honor achieved by those who recorded a straight-A or 4.0 GPA.

In addition, 1,279 students were named to the Dean’s Honor Roll, a list of those who achieved a 3.5 GPA or better for the semester and no grade lower than a B.

Jeremy Emmett Snelling a/k/a Miss Emma, 50, of West Burlington, Iowa, passed away Thursday, July 4, 2024, at his home.

Born Oct. 7, 1973, in El Reno, he was the son of Jay Snelling and Glenda Mosher.

Emmett a/k/a Miss Emma had a heart of gold and will be remembered for his outgoing and most often outspoken, bubbly and boisterous personality. He was very spirited and loud and most often slightly out of control, which led to his many notorious stories.

Former U.S. Sen. Inhofe dies at age 89 after illness

WASHINGTON – Oklahoma Republican James Inhofe, the longest-serving senator from the state, died Tuesday morning surrounded by family after suffering a sudden illness at age 89.

Inhofe, whose political career spanned six decades, established himself as a fixture of Oklahoma politics and a mainstay of the conservative ideology.

He championed U.S. military strength and strong defense spending, later serving as chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee from late 2018 to 2020, a longtime goal of the former senator.

Julian Fuentez

Services for Julian Bosquez Fuentez will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 15 in the Turner Funeral Home Chapel, Hinton, with burial in the El Reno Cemetery.

Julian died July 3, 2024, in El Reno. He was born April 7, 1970, in Goldthwaite, Texas. A graduate of El Reno High School, he worked in construction.

Joshua Goulsby

Services for Joshua Wade Goulsby were held June 15 at Southern Heights Baptist Church.

Joshua passed away May 26, 2024, in Oklahoma City. He was born Aug. 8, 1984, in El Reno. He grew up and attended school in El Reno and had made his home in Oklahoma City in recent years.

Joshua is survived by his sons, Keyantae Goulsby and Keyandre Johnson; his father, Leonard Lang Sr.; brothers, Leonard Lang Jr., Jordan Cooksey and Isiah Cooksey; and sisters, DeShaen Brewer, Shawnta Lang and Sierria Cooksey.

Championship bling

Members of El Reno High School’s 2023-24 girls basketball team recently held a cookout and swim party where they were presented their Class 5A State Championship rings.

Each ring is filled with over 50 jewels designed by head coach Jennifer Douglas and made by Signature Rings.

There were 28 rings made at around $250 each. The cost was paid for by private donations and local business sponsors.

El Reno won its first-ever title in girls hoops with a 28-0 record.
