Graphic video shows injury to trooper on I-40

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol released a graphic video of a state trooper who was injured Jan. 18 during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Canadian County.

The 36-second dash camera video shows Trooper Jesse Gregory as he approaches the passenger side of a white sport utility vehicle that he had pulled over for a traffic violation along I-40 at Cimarron Road.

Voter registration deadline for presidential primary Feb. 9

Friday, Feb. 9 is the last day to apply for voter registration in order to be eligible to vote in the March 5 Presidential Preferential Primary and Canadian County Question Election, Canadian County Election Board Secretary Allen Arnold said.

Arnold said that persons who are U.S. citizens, residents of Oklahoma and at least 17 1/2 years old are eligible to apply for voter registration. However, you must be at least 18 years old to vote.

Nikki Haley recently provoked a firestorm of controversy for failing to name slavery when asked by journalists what caused the Civil War. A chorus of critics, including President Joe Biden, censured her response. Biden declared, “Let me be clear for those who don’t seem to know: Slavery was the cause of the Civil War.”

Funeral services for Jack L. Hodgkinson Jr. of Oklahoma City will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3 at El Reno Wesley United Methodist Church with Pastor Aron Kotila officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the El Reno Cemetery under the direction of Huber-Benson Funeral Home.

Jack died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2024, at Heritage at Brandon Place in Oklahoma City. He was born in El Reno on Feb. 5, 1947, to his parents, Jack L. Sr. and Ruth Hodgkinson.

Redlands releases fall honor rolls

Redlands Community College recently announced students named to the college’s honor rolls for the fall 2023 semester.

Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll have completed 12 or more credit hours and have earned a GPA of not less than 3.8, with no grade less than a B – excluding 0-level courses.

The Vice President’s Honor Roll recognizes students who have completed 12 or more hours of coursework and have earned a GPA of 3.5 to 3.79, with no grade less than a C – excluding 0-level courses.

Davis, Koehn earn falls in home dual loss

With only six grapplers on the active roster, El Reno High School’s girls wrestling team has not won many duals this season after dropping a 42-24 decision to Noble last week on senior night.

It was still a positive outing as El Reno went 4-2 in matches settled on the mat after the Indians forfeited five weights in the 18-point loss.

Nylley Miller (105) was pinned in 46 seconds by Noble’s T’ea Plummer before Brooklynn Huggins (110) got those six points back on a 1:20 fall over Christina Vinson.
